Iowa VS Texas in the Alamo Bowl- my gut tells me my Hawkeyes are going to get trounced, but hopefully they will actually show up and play a good game. They've beaten defending champs before. Thoughts?

Iowa fans travel well to bowl games but it is almost like a home game to the horns. I say Texas by 24 points.

I say Iowa in an upset by a last-second field goal.

I don't know.. they always come into a year over rated.. then they lose a lot, and have lots of reasons why.. I'll give you one: their crazy quarterback... that guy's horrible, and I'll bet Tate doesn't even get drafted. I'm not saying he doesn't have the skills to be good, but mentally, I'm not convinced he's all there..

Every one said Florida would stomp them in 04, Iowa won big. Everyone said LSU would crush them the next year, didnt happen, granted it was a last second miracle but they won. Everyone said Florida would beat them big last year, they didnt. (Iowa got hosed up and down in that one, anyone who watched that game would agree) Granted this Iowa team isnt as good as the previous ones, but Iowa has a weird way of coming to play in bowl games. (Save for the Orange Bowl when USC housed them) So i dont know. I think it might be closer than everyone thinks. They wound up finishing in the top ten last 4 years or something, they always finish strong.

I agree. Iowa does seem to get up for bowl games pretty good. And, no, I don't see Tate getting drafted. Too bad.

ahh man i am still laughing at ESPN and all of the Iowa Fans saying Tate and Young are 2006 Heisman candidates.

at the beginning of the season, yeah, why not? Doug Flutie had Tate as his dark horse candidate, and I think he know a little something about the subject. Young could've had a shot if O'keefe would have run the ball instead of playing a pass happy offense. Tate's year went steadily downhill after the OSU game and the rest of the team didnt seem to show up at all this season except for Purdue, 2nd half of iowa state, and thats about it. The heismann is a team trophy in some respect. A player can't win it if the rest of team doesnt show up week in and week out.

Agree ^
But The hawks are gonna be #1 next year definitely (sarcasm)
If you think about it, cub and hawk fans have one thing in common, every year. They think theiir gonna win a championship every year. Maybe it's just because I live in Iowa (real close to Iowa City) and I get sick of the Iowa fans after 2 wins, oh were gonna be great. I think that with the cubs now, but it doesn't mean squat that we signed soriano if he doesn't show up to play, but he will. What if he goes down, DLee goes down, or what if our #1 Ace gets hurt like Prior and wood?
Just making comparisons.
But again, Texas will walk all over Iowa. Put it all back in my face when Iowa wins.
PS: As a nebraska fan, i put up with Iowa fans pretty good, i just say "Iowa - Championships?" and people will be quiet. It is one thing I like doing, and that's argueing about sports, but in the good way, i can get worked up, but i definitely don't hold grudges. My apologies if I offended you by saying Iowa sucks, basically.

it may be offensive, but it's the truth.

Not offended at all, thats the way it goes. I have thick skin after dealing with Cardinal and Sox fans and a daily basis.
But yes, Iowa will more than likely get walked over by Texas. We had a lousy year after high expectations since Ferentz took over the program. After fininshing the top ten year in and year out since 03, of course we had to start thinking about a national championship. This year the team was made out to be better than it was. Everybody beleived it, but it just wasnt true. Beating Texas will be the only redeeming factor of the year. The Horns are probably overlooking the Hawks like LSU and Florida did which might help us. There are some questions that need answers, particularly offensively.
And I have no problem with the Huskers or their fans. Success gives you the right, I cant argue with that. If we played each other it would be different! BTW when will there be a Iowa Nebraska border war? That would be great. We tried to get Mizzou put they wussed out. I think that would be great for the fans. Apparently there is a huge state rivalry. Im from DBQ originally so we dont many Nebraskans talking smack. What do you think?

I dunno.. Tejas doesn't tend to overlook teams.. they usually trounce whoever they play, no matter how big or small..

Well, the Hawks could have won, but they didnt. That was a great game. Texas was sluggish in the 1st quarter and the Hawks came out swinging. Too bad they couldnt hold on. So it goes. At least they beat the spread.

They did beat the spread, but not texas :).
Hats off to Iowa, they couldn't get it done though. If they would have won, i would have been pissed, why did a 6-6 team deserve to be in the alamo bowl? Oh well, pretty good exciting game.

The Hawks did what I expected them to do, come out pumped up and at least give Texas a run for their money. If the Chandler touchdown wasn't called back or if Schichter was able to make that 45 yarder, Texas would be crying in their chili.
