Cubs shortstop Ryan Theriot has collected 107 hits this season, making him Chicago’s first shortstop to have at least 100 hits prior to the All-Star break since Don Kessinger had 101 hits prior to the 1971 break … he also had 123 hits in the first half of 1969.

The Cubs are the only team in the majors featuring three starting pitchers with at least nine wins apiece (Dempster and Zambrano, 10 wins; Lilly, 9) … in fact, only two other N.L. clubs have at least two starters with nine wins apiece: St. Louis (Kyle Lohse, 11; Braden Looper, 9) and Atlanta (Tim Hudson, 9; Jair Jurrgens, 9).

Ramirez’ homer yesterday was his fourth tie-breaking home run in the eighth inning or later this season.

Harden, 26, was acquired by Chicago along with reliever Chad Gaudin from Oakland on Tuesday, in exchange for pitcher Sean Gallagher, outfielder Matt Murton, infielder Eric Patterson and catcher Josh Donaldson.
Is 36-19 with a 3.42 ERA (206 ER/541.2 IP) in 97 games (89 starts) in all or part of six seasons with the A’s from 2003-2008.
Against the N.L., owns a 5-1 record with a 1.81 ERA (11 ER/54.2 IP) in 10 career appearances.
A native of Victoria, British Columbia, he has amassed a 10-3 record with a 2.95 ERA (49 ER/149.1 IP) during the last three seasons, limiting opponents to a .201 batting average, though five stints on the disabled list have limited him to 29 games (26 starts).
When tossing at least 7.0 innings, has compiled an 18-3 mark with a 1.45 ERA (35 ER/217.1 IP) in those 29 starts.
