I think its a last resort but he is a lefty and has a good arm and speed. But it may be too early for him. maybe Pagan in canter then Pie around mid-season?
It might be the only option.

Too early for him.. if they have to resort to something crazy like that, it'd be The Riot or Pagan...

You never know, mid season might be just right. Maybe something will click for him this year and he'll start playing lights out ball. If thats the case and we dont have a solid CF by july, it might be worth a shot. At least get him some reps with the big club to see if he can make the transition. If not, send him down.

If the CF position is solidified by mid season and Pie gets hot in AAA, i say give him a shot.

Pie is not ready. I was able to watch him play several times last summer in Des Moines. Defensively he could do it, but he lacks plate discipline. Reminds me of a young Shawn Dunston....doesn't hit the ball where it is pitched, hits the ball if it is pitched! He will get better as he matures.

I don't follow.. wouldn't it be that nobody can hit the ball if it's not pitched?

needing a cf revolves around jones leaving. and if he is traded, what kind of player he is traded for. the thing is: our entire field is set except the bench.

the talk of needing a new cf came from the discussions about jones going for a pitcher, which will now no longer happen (4 starters plus prior, miller, rookies so no need to trade).

if jones goes he will go for a cf, and being as how he is our only left handed bat, hendry wouldn't trade for a right handed player. the point is: the only player jones is likely to be traded for is a player almost identical to himself, so there is no advantage to a team taking him, or the cubs letting him go. the only person who benefits is jones, who gets to play in a new city.

the only way this discussion even matters is if jones goes, which imo he wont, unless we can get an solid package of rookies which i guess might be considered, but by who?? it just wont happen.

(and pie isnt ready!)

If CF is solidified, we don't need to make any changes.
Anyways, Pie isn't ready. His time will come. I would trade him and Marshall for Crawford if I knew they'd accept the deal

I say give him another year in AAA, Maybe just maybe if he is doing decent call him up in September give him a couple of AB's so he will be ready to go in 2008.

I meant to say if it isnt, was at work and had to type fast. My production at work has taken a sharp decline since i started posting here. But I digress, as of now, no Pie isnt ready and shouldnt be consiedered for the starting job. But something could click and start tearing it up in AAA (kinda like hill all of a sudden clicking last year in his second stint up here) then, if Jones or Pagan or whoever is playing there is struggling with the position I say give him a shot. If he's a hinderance out there, by then i dont think he will be, then send him back down. Conversely if LP finds a formula out there that is winning games and keeping us in a tight pennant race, then dont rock the boat.

My work production is crappy enough as it is, so I can't touch the this site

My friend in the cube behind me is just as bad as I am. We always have some sort of gameday going on. Every year we bet a 12pack per game in the Cubs/Sox series. I need the Cubs to rebound from last year

nice. i have faith we'll rebound. however it very well could be a split like usual, but i think a good old fashioned stomping is in order. let everyone remember what planet we live on.
