Favre to be reinstated, report to Packers Monday

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP)—Brett Favre will be reinstated and added to the Green Bay Packers’ active roster Monday.

The NFL announced the move Sunday. Commissioner Roger Goodell had held off on granting Favre’s request for reinstatement for nearly a week. He hoped Favre and the team could resolve their standoff. By reinstating Favre, Goodell is following through on a recent promise to force action.

The reinstatement will become effective at noon on Monday.

Ya know they said they will have a open competition for the starting QB job. I say B.S. Aaron Rodgers is getting screwed there is no way Favre is going to be 2nd banana.

The packers are a complete Joke. Aaron Rodgers must be pissed, he was promosied the starting job and now the Packers are saying it will be a open competition which lets be honest means that Brett Favre is again GB QB. No way they can sit him while they play Rodgers, there just not man enought to come out and say it. Rodgers has huge potential but is being completely wasted in GB, he should ask for a traed, Favre is likely to be in GB for 2 years minimum.

Got to feel sorry for Rodgers.

Oh I feel for the guy. What a load of crap. What does he need to prove?? he won't win another Super Bowl, whats it going to take someone to knock his block off? I know if I was Rodgers I would demand to be traded. Favre should be booed his ass off. I hope he gets that in every stadium he plays in this year. However Packer fans being what they are "oh Brett we love you" THANK GOD I am a Bears fan.

Did you see his plane landing in GB last night? they showed it as part of the HOF game and there were loads of packers fans with Favre signs and everything, welcoming him back like the messiah. The packers are a young team, they have the potential to build something special and it has to start from the QB spot, this season was a great time to bring in Rodgers and now they have Favre and will have to change it all around.

Rodgers was selected in 2005 for gods sake, he should of been playing in 06, deffinately should of been playing in 07 and if he doesn't play in 08 as a starter then questions have to be asked, were not talking about your average QB here was:

Insight Bowl MVP offensive player
Cal Co-Offensive MVP
First team all pac 10
Homourable mention all american.

I would gladly take him as a Jets fan.

Rodgers is only signed to 2010 so if favre stays for the 2 years remaining on his contract, GB in 2010 could find themselves without any QB's.

With McCarthey holding his presser tomorrow instead of tonight makes me think there were problems during the meeting. I cant believe they would offer him 20 million to not play and then just give him the job. NFL analysts seem to think that it will be Favres job. I disagree. I think they are waiting for a QB to get hurt from another team, so they will have some leverage, and then unload Favre on them. Favre is a great, great player- but what he did this year was wrong.

Aug 5th 2008, 10:22 am
Absolutely Skip, they are deffo trying to move him, but the whole point is that if they are unable to do this and it looks unlikely, i mean if my Jets are not interested and Tampa Bay decide to go with Garcia instead of taking a punt on Favre then there is not much hope of others wanting him, but if they cant move him then he has to play........you just can't sit Favre in Green Bay, its like going to the sistine chapel and not looking up, it just wont happen. Favre is a selfish guy, remember when they first drafted Rodgers and Favre said when asked if he would tutor Rodgers said something like 'He wasn't a teacher'.

I heard some reports on the Rome show earlier today. It seems Favre and the Packers are at an impasse. Favre thinks it's not a good idea for an open competition for the QB spot there because it's "unfair to Aaron (Rodgers)." He feels like he's not really wanted in Green Bay anymore. The Packers are trying to trade him, but they want him to go to either the Jets or Tampa, but he wants to go to either Minnesota or Chicago. He's not going to be on the bench behind Rodgers, because the Cheese Heads will start chanting "We Want Favre" the moment Rodgers airmails a receiver. Face it, this is not going to be solved easily. The commissioner might need to intervene.

If this assclown comes to Chicago Bears I will personally hang up my jersey. I will not root for the guy after all of this. I shiver of the possibility him wearing a uniform George Halas created, if the Vikings want him....go there, this man has no class. I think he should be a quarterbacks coach thats the only way I would like Favre and the Bears in the same sentence.

I did want him on the Jets but he has handled this really badly, he seems to have a rubbish attitude to being a role model for the younger QB's on the roster and he is just a media circus, i would rather play the season out with Pennington and Clemens than this guy in green.

Now they're talking about Favre considering a trade to the Bucs. At least that would get him out of the division, but they do play the Packers Week 4. Frankly, everyone's to blame on this. Favre for making the hasty retirement in March, and then hemming and hawing the next five months about returning. The Packers for giving him the cold shoulder. The media for constantly feeding all the bullcrap in this 24/7 news/sports cycle. A pox on all their houses!

Im a huge NFL fan, and followed this closely. There is probably nobody in the league that I have disliked more than Favre and the reason is because he is so good. I fault both sides as well, but the Packers to me are nuts for not giving him the team again. They were an overtime away from getting manhandled by the Pats in the Superbowl last year. They probably played way above their heads as well. I feel bad for both Rodgers and Favre. Rodgers will be under a microscope all year, while Favre - the face of the franchise, if not the NFL has been told he wasnt wanted. If the Pack were so confident in Rodgers, who I do think will be fairly good, why not just release Favre. It would have saved this whole mess and he would be in Minny playing in a dome, where he always has trouble. They were scared. The whole NFC is playing for second place anyway because the Cowboys are going 19-0.LOL

They didn't release him because they don't want him going to a rival, division or not, playing in a dome or not, its not good for the face of your franchise to be playing for the rival.Although he had a good year last year, previously he has been a INT machine, the best thing the Packers can do is get him out of there and give Rodgers room to breath. As soon as Rodgers throws 25 ODD Td's this year and around 6-7 picks the fans will soon welcome him. Where did you hear that TP??? i have heard that trade talks are heating up involving the Bucs and the Jets........hopefully it is the Bucs.

Ya know why don't they just release this clown?? Let him take his sideshow to Tampa or wherever else. The Packers sometime have to cut their losses and go on, The Packers said they have gone on then just do it already. If he goes to the Vikings whatever. Its still only 2 games you play them, still gotta worry about the other 14.

The Packers don't want to give Favre his outright release, because they don't want him to sign with another team in the division. Yes, I know it's only two games out of 16, but it's still a rival if he goes to the Bears or the Vikings. The Packers want to control the situation. It's either make him re-retire as a Packer or trade him out of the NFC North.

Favre traded to the Jets for a conditional 2009 draft pick.

This sucks. Now we all get to hear from the east coast bias sports media is how Favre is going to take a mediocre team to the playoffs. They were a 6-10 team an hour ago, they MIGHT be a 8-8 team now.

First of all the Jets get absolutely no national coverage at all, there is no media bias when it comes to the Jets, so much so in fact that SI.com planend to go to all training camps and didn't say when they would make it to the Jets. Also where did you get that 6-10 from???? everyone was expecting a 8-8 or 9-6 season. If you ever watched the Jets you would know that there problem was on the O-line, they went out and got 2 ex first round picks and multiple pro bowls between them to add to Ferguson and Mangold, 2 very promosing players, other issues was they had no NT to play the 3-4 and they went out and got one of the best in the business.. I'm not sure who said they would be 6-10 but they were seriously deluded.

Now with favre i would say we are more a 9-7/10-6 team, ONLY if he picks up the play-book fast, we now have a deep threat which will open up the run, we have weapons for him in Cotch/Coles/Keller and Baker and if he plays like he did last seaosn then play-offs a in sight.

Don't give me this rubbish about the media though, we get no coverage at all, the only outlets that give us coverage are the NY papers like the Post,Times and Daily News. We might get a bit more national attention with Favre for the first couple of weeks but it will die down.

Gee that post about the Jets getting no media coverage sounds like the other Chicago baseball team...lol. I say with Favre the Jets will finish 9-7. Thats the best I think they will finish expecially in the AFC East with New England and Buffalo looks somewhat improved. This team was a 4-12 team last year, I doubt Favre is going to make that much of an impact, I could be wrong. I know they improved the O-Line but time will tell and its kinda weird a former Packer QB handing off to a former Bears RB.

The Jets play NE twice, @SD, @ Seattle . That should be 4 losses but Im going to say they beat NE once. The twelve other games are winnable... 10-6 could be done.

Jets fans i know expect a 9-7 or 10-6 season, we have some tough games but i think people are under estimating just how much we have improved through FA and the draft. The main problems were the O-line, every NFL expert has said they now have a top 5 O-line in the NFL, there D-Line was poor for one reason we have Robertson playing NT, and he doesn't fit that we now have Jenkins who fits perfectly and commands double coverage. We had no pass rushing, with the new O-line we brought in Pace and Gholston, both are QB hunters. We have improved our receiving with the addition of Keller who looks awesome in TC, we also improved out QB with Favre no doutb about that, just the threat of the long ball opens up the running game, we also brought in Richardson as the FB, one of the better guys in the league at opening up running space for the RB.

Most people over look it because we don't get coverage, even NFL total access said that we probably don't get the attention we deserve, but we should get more now with Favre. I'm not moaning about it as i really don't mind us being the under dogs, the team nobody watches etc but to say that the media will spin this into the Jets going 16-0 orsomething like that is absurd lol

Back on topic, Brett had a goof Press conference yesterday, said all the right things, and was on the sideline for the game learning a few of the plays. Happy Jets fan.

You cant forget the Jets were a playoff team 2 years ago. Their special teams/ return game is no doubt the best in the league. To me special teams and baserunning are very similar. They are way overlooked. I say 10-11 wins. I always liked Pennington though. I think he will go somewhere and do well. He is a leader. I know his injuries have hurt him but the last time I watched Favre VS THE Jets- Pennington and the boys put it on them hard- 30 or 40 to 0. I just remember it was bad. I think a crucial game for the Jets this season will be Nov 23 vs the Titans @TN. Both of these teams will be fighting for a wildcard. The Jets have always had the Titans number. Last yr the Titans won the game 10-6 or something like that but the Jets totally outplayed them.

Absolutely skip, our return game wasn't even firing on all cylinders last season as Pro Bowl returner Justin Miller was out. That will be a big game Skip, fully expect to challenge for the wild card this season. I'm a massive fan of Pennington but if he go's to the Dolphins (Some talk of them making contact with him) then i will hate him like you would expect a Jets fan to hate any Dolphins player.

I second that. How many times has he pulled this crap anyways.

This is why the Packers told him to make up his mind. For the last 3 years the great Brett never wanted to show up in the off season and participate in team training. And when he did show up he is the center of attention. Not to mention the fact that early in his carreer he played very well in the extreme cold. Last year in the Bear game and the NFC Championship game his body language told you "I don't want to even be out here on the field". If he wants to have attention New York is the place to be. As soon as he starts pulling some of the same crap they will tear him apart "He isn't playing in the village of Green Bay anymore". Yes, the Packers have made the play-offs but in the past 10 years that was about as far as they got. Do you want a player that thinks he is the GM too. This guy wanted to decide who the head coach is going to be? That is just insane, When the packers got rid of Mike Sherman then Favre wanted them to hire Steve Mariuchi. His old QB coach had a wonderfull winning percentage of <.380 for his career winning percentage as a head coach. This yahoo has yet to learn that there is no "I" in the word "TEAM. :D

I couldn't agree more with you ^^^^^^^^^ when he was in Green Bay. First and foremost in sports I'm a Jets fan so i watch training camp closely, watch videos ready everything and anything that has been said. I had heard that he didn't even change in the same area in Green Bay, well there is none of that in NY, if you aint a team player then you will be ran out of there with your tail between your legs. Every indication is that he is playing as a team member here, he changes with the team, he runs penalty laps when he makes mistakes like the rest of the team, and he has team meetings like the rest of the team. Staying in one place you feel like you become more important than you are, the best thing that GB and Favre could of done was part ways. They have done that and now Favre has to prove himself all over again, to the players, to the fans, to Woody the owner, Mike the GM and Eric the manager, expect to see a far less selfish player this season than you have seen.
