I, as well as most Cubbie Nation, love his Big Blue Train. I know most other posters on the board do.

Love is such a strong word. I have to admit I wasn't too fond of it at first. But it's slowly been growing on me. But it wasn't until a couple of weeks ago that I finally decided to climb aboard the Big Blue Train. Then again it took awhile for "Go Cubs Go" to grow on me too. Now a win just isn't complete until I get to hear it.

I don't know the story behind the big blue train.

Dan Pleasac, an ex MLB pitcher is the Pre and Post game analyst for Comcast Sports Net, which covers the game when WGN doesn't. A few weeks ago, he made the comment that it was time to climb aboard the Big Blue Train.... and it kinda grew from there. Now, he "woo woo's" during the broadcast.... and today he went on the postgame show wearing a Conductor's hat! It's just a fun little thing that Comcast and the fans are having...I'm sorry, that SOME fans are having...

I don't get to see the pre/post games for Comcast. mlb.tv cuts all that off and only shows the game.

Most people I talk to in Chicago think it's LAME, boring and unimaginative. After 100 yrs you think something more creative and exciting came be thought of. Were not talking about some run of the mill year here. On top of that plesac has no right to be the ringleader just because he's an analyst for csn.

Most people think it's a thomas the train reference. BTW is that where plesac will go next? you can only take this so far. That's why it's lame

tell me HeyHey, what should the slogan be in YOUR eyes after 100 years?
How about Brickhouse's old "Anyone can have a bad century"
The Big Blue Train is fun. Cubs are steam rolling the NL like a Big Blue Train

I'm not a theme maker, but why just take the lame theme plesac throws out there.
TheBenjamin

no one knows where the theme for the year comes from.
Look at last years. "Its Gonna Happen" That came from the asshat who ran onto the field and tried to beat the tar out of one of our pitchers years ago.
They are not offical slogans by anymeans, but they are the sayings that stick

I don't think by any means he intended this to be "the theme"... he has just been having fun with it...and why not? It's a fun time to be a Cubs fan.

Somethings just happen you don't plan it they just are what they are. Whether it be some horrible song that was overplayed during your senior year in High School although the jam sucked when you hear it 20 years from that day it instantly brings back a rush of memories. For the Bears awesome 2005/2006 Super Bowl run that theme/song turned out to be "Im Going To Miami" by Will Smith. Lets just say that song is BAD but yet I played it after like game #5 and it stuck after every win it overtook my speakers =D let me tell you nothing was sweeter than singing that lame song that Sunday Afternoon after the NFC title game. HA after listening to it We all learned the words that was priceless. And come late October I will do the best CHOOOO! CHOOOO! I will ever do.

Interesting, I'm a huge Bears fan and I never heard that song. I won't be boarding anytime soon.

he is as giddy as I am about this season. Finally we have a team where we could tweek a few things but we don't have glaring holes in the lineup. Would we like a lefty outta the pen yes, would I like to have a fifth starter and send Marquis out yes but these are fine tuning not a total rebuild. I can remember watchin jose nieves at short and thinking wow we don't have a major league team here, thank god those days are over. We have a legitimate shot at going far in the playoffs not just get there. I am moist:D
I would rather sit and watch Dan P. and the big blue train arm motions than hear Go cubs go.

Big difference. GO Cubs GO has been around a long time and is just a song that I think was voted on from a list if i'm not mistaken(anyone?) TBBT is soley Plesacs creation with no approval or vote. It's fine if it stays om CSN only. Don't want to see this going viral and become the only one

There is only one 'Blue Train' and that is by Coltrane.
The whole 'hop on the blue train' thing sounds pretty lame, but I also don't feel the need to associate any theme song or motto to the Cubs season. It's pretty stupid. I still can't get over the Lame Sox PR from a couple of years ago (Grinder Ball, Win or Die trying). It was more like WWF, then add in Steve Perry trying to cash in a song written 25 years ago and you had the apex of lameness in baseball.
Lets keep the VH1-ness out of the season.

How can anyone not like Go Cubs Go?? Hell I have both versions of the song on my cd I burned along with Harry's first night game rendition of Take Me Out to the Ballgame. I play that song in my Trep everytime I go over my best buds house the Sox fan.

Not that I don't like it, but it has it's time and place, and it's now become terribly annoying. Obviously there's nothing wrong with the original intent of the song or the story behind it, but musically it's in the same vein as Kenny Loggins and Glenn Frey.
Bottomline, I just hate that there has to be some 'official' theme song, slogan, or whatever when a team is having success. It's cliched, it sucks, and it's incredibly commerical and unappealling to alot of people. I guess it's good that we are arguing about something so mundane this late in the season.

I don't live in Chicago so I don't know if you people who do have to hear "Go Cubs Go" more often than I do or not. But, the only time I hear the song is after the Cubs win. I think that's the reason I like it. Because I know if I have the song stuck in my head the Cubs must have won. I honestly think the that's the only reason the song hasn't started to annoy me yet. In fact, the more I hear it, the more I like it.
HeyHey, I'm actually surprised to hear that you aren't a fan of the Big Blue Train. You almost always seem so positive about everything to do with the Cubs. I didn't expect this to be any different. I do have one question though. Is Plesac trying to push this as the Cubs theme for the season or is it just what he is doing to celebrate the Cubs season? Because my understanding of it, from what little exposure I've had to it, is that he is just excited about the year that the Cubs are having and is just trying to express that. He is kind of making a fool of himself over it, but for some reason I'm actually entertained by that. But I can see how someone could be annoyed by it. Especially if they have the impression that it is being forced upon them.

I guess it's more him being a clown and annoying me more than anything else. I just want to drill that clown in the face everytime I see it.

Just be thankful that the 1984 song MEN IN BLUE didn't become the "Cubs Anthem"...the twangy country sounding song sung by members of the 1984 team (the same that sing the chorus in Go Cubs Go). It was written by Steve Goodman as well, but performed by Gary Woods, Keith Moreland, Leon Durham, Jody Davis, Rick Sutcliffe, and a couple others....
and few people realize that these are the same guys that you hear after every Win who sing "Go Cubs Go, Go Cubs Go, Hey Chicago Whattya Say, the Cubs are gonna win today"....
