I was wondering how many of you listen to the Pat and Ron show and have a favorite Ron Santo moment? Mine personally was 1995? anyway Cubs were playing on the west coast playing the Dodgers it was late at night and Steve Trachsel gave up a game tying homer and Pat you know how he sounds like ohhhh man, and here is Ron OH F*** then he caught himself and kept apologizing the whole rest of the game and Pat just couldn't stop laughing.

Haha.. awesome.. Ronny used to get on my nerves.. he's kind of loopy.. but the more I listened to him, the more I liked him.. I talked about it in another thread, but when he had like a 10 minute conversation about how Coco Crisp sounds like a breakfast cereal and what his favorite kind is, and what Pat's favorite cereal is.. almost had me in tears I was laughing so hard.

Yeah thats always funny. It seems to me when Ron gets something to eat during the game Pat always makes fun of him. "whats that you got Ron? Well Pat its a Hot Dog (while eating)". Ron is funny as hell, my grandpa kinda dislikes him because he beat up a hot dog vendor when he played for the cubs (I think its funny). I sometimes don't watch the games on TV but turn on 720 in my car and its better. The banter between the two is just top notch. I've heard alot of other announcers and Bob Uecker is the only one close IMO.

He beat up a hotdog vendor? That seems to be a story that's been lost in Cubbie Lore.. What happened?

I don't have Ronnie radio "moment," but I like the fact that Ronnie lives and dies with the Cubs, since he's been with the team for so long. When the Cubs win, make a great play or a runner is chugging home, Ronnie is estatic. However, if the Cubs lose a tough game or make a critical error, Ronnie sounds like his dog just died.

Yea, he flips out whenever something bad happens, just like the rest of us.

How he always says "GEEZ" when he gets fired up about a walk or anything bad.

My favorite is when the Cubs were playing the Brewers (I think it was the Brewers anyway) and Brant Brown dropped the fly ball that had the Cubs lose the game. Ronnie just let out a deep sigh and a loud 'oh no'. There was more, you could tell he was not happy.

By far the best Ron Santo moment.....

Pat:"Brant Brown back to the warning track and...hee dropped the ball

Ron:"Ohhhhh Noooo.....Noooo

LOL that was classic.

I get frustrated listening to people say how bad he is. What they fail to understand is that he is the color commentator. Pat is the play-by-play man, and a great one. Ron is there for his knowledge of the game. His undying love for the cubs is a bonus. Nobody hurts as bad as Ron when the cubs fail to pull out a win. he is the utmost example of a true cubs fan.

Pat and Ron make listening to Cubs games entertaining. My wife is not the die hard I am but she enjoys listening to Pat and Ron. Some of their conversations are quite humorous. They made last season less of a loss.

How about when Ronnie's hair piece caught fire on a heater in the booth at his favorite place,Shea stadium. Were he also had one one of the weirdest things happen to him as a player, when a black cat ran in front of him while he was standing in the on deck circle.A bad omen of things to come for sure in 1969!!!

Well I was wrong it was a pizza vendor. When Santo played for the Cubs he had a side deal selling pizza, it was for extra money cause they didn't make that much. Anyways, he didn't like how a guy was selling them so he threw him into a wall and punched him. No kidding thats a true story.:D

I usually listen to the radio to hear Pat because he is an outstanding broadcaster. I'll agree with all of the previous posts about the Brant Brown error being the best Santo moment, but I'd follow it closely with the "flaming toupee". However, it always cracked me up when Ron and Pat would try and see who could peel an orange on one try. Just my two cents....;)

I'll bet you that when the Mets move to their new stadium in a couple of years, Ron will be the first one to hit the button to blow up Shea. He won't miss that building one bit.;)

Yeah the brant clown highlight is prob his most famous, thats what I love about him, his heart and soul is with this team. If you cant get excited about the game when ronny's excited, you arent a fan. It always takes a minute for him to calm down and give us his commentary when something happens. Its great.

My Favorite Santo moment was this year against the Astros. Someone came off the field and Santo starts yelling about "that's the problem! There's only eight guys out there!" and Pat says something to the effect of "Actually Ron, the second baseman just ran over to the dugout to get his sunglasses." Ron let out his classic "Oh geez" and apoligized the rest of the inning

I'd rather see Durham's glove after it was soaked in Gatorade than Alou's bat after he covered it in urine!

Anyway, back to the topic... I absolutely love to hear Pat and Ron. I don't know how many times I would be listening to the game and be in sync with Ron with my reactions....I think that is why I love him so much. He is first a fan, then a radio color man. His emotions come through the radio waves and into our hearts. I found it so sad that he had to miss the playoffs in '03 due to his health problems. My favorite Ron Santo moment was not a radio moment, but the ceremony the Cubs had when they retired his number at Wrigley Field the day after they clinched the division in 2003. I remember as they began to raise the flag for the first time, the sun came out. Pat Hughes started the ceremony and promised not to joke around as he respected Ron too much to lighten the subject that much, but John MacDounagh (sp?) didn't hold back in the jokes as he reminded us of some of the funny things Ron has said...such as the burning toupee....how he couldn't say Mark Grudzielanek...and the Brant Brown call. I was in tears as they put Ron in a golf cart and rode him around the perimeter of Wrigley Field. What a magical day!

I was lucky enough to be at Wrigely that day,as I was for Ron Santo day
back on August 28th 1971,[thats when Ronnie went public about being a dibetic]. I wouldn't of missed it. As a kid growing up a Cub fan in the 60's,
Ron Santo was my favorite player. When I played ball,I wore #10 and played thirdbase. There was no player who was nicer to kids, and all fans.He always had time to sign an autograph,or take a picture. And nobody played harder,or seemed to care about winning or losing more.[which sometimes got him in trouble] Ron Santo was the premier third sacker in the national leauge in his era. If he would have gotten into post season play and got some of the same national exposure that Brooks Robinson did with the Orioles,he would already be in the Hall of Fame, were he most certainly belongs!!
