MILWAUKEE -- Brewers right-hander Ben Sheets, enjoying his healthiest season since 2004, left Monday's game against the Mets with tightness in his left groin.
The right-hander needed just 54 pitches to navigate five innings, allowing no runs on two hits, with one walk. He appeared in relatively comfortable spirits on television monitors when pinch-hitter Joe Dillon took Sheets' spot in the lineup leading off the sixth.
Sheets lowered his season ERA to 2.96 in the performance, and he left in line for his 13th win, which would remarkably represent a career high for the four-time All-Star. An assortment of injuries, including inner ear, back, hamstring, groin and finger ailments, have plagued Sheets since a banner 2004, in which he posted a 2.70 ERA and an 8.25:1 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
