Alot of Cubs fans(including me) have given Jason Marquis a ton of crap since the second half of last season. But right now Jason Marquis deserves some props! Not only for todays big outing on the road where he helped stop the Cubs worst losing streak of the season with a very good outing(7.1 innings 5 hits 2 ER). But for how well he has pitched down the stretch. At a time where the Cubs are dealing with starting pitching injuries and a few starters who seem to be losing steam, Marquis continues to give the Cubs quality starts. He's kept the Cubs in most of the games he's started, while eating plenty of innings. He hasn't struck out a ton of guys, and he's walked more then a few. But he's using his sinker well in order to get plenty of ground ball outs. Marquis may have deserved alot of the crap he's gotten over the last year. But now he deserves some prorps! Don't underestimate the importance of todays win!

I think he may have earned a playoff spot today and his good pitching in the second half.

More specifically, I think howry and Wuertz are playing themselves off of the playoff roster, and Gaudin's injury seems to be getting more serious.

I think, bockstock, that your question mark may just be Ted Lilly, because the way I understand, the way the playoff schedule is and where the off days fall, it is possible that they could really go with 3 starters.

I agree with Lillly right now but he is a tough competitor, hope he pitches against the cardinals. always tuff on them.

Marquis great performance could very well be his shining moment as a Cub. When they really needed a starter to step up and stop the bleeding, Marquis got the job done in a big way. This is usually the time of year when he goes in the tank and can't be counted on. He's keeping his ERA down from previous seasons. I hope he has a couple more of these in him this month.

Many Cub fans questioned Jim Hendry when he signed Marquis as a FA after he was coming off a season with a 6 ERA. However, most people forget he had success before that awful season & his main asset to any club is he was an innings eater & durable, something the Cubs had lacked from their SP's prior to the 2007 season.

One problem he's always faced is he faded in the 2nd half every year after getting off to a good start. It's nice to see him turning the corner with a nice stretch late this season.

Good job,Marquis. Keep up the good work!

Yes Marquis has been pitching well, but it always amazes me how much run support he gets. As I stated b4 the pitching hasn't been the problem in the slump with the exception of Lilys outing. Let's hope the O will keep this up for the rest of the starters

It was sooo nice to see how he pitched last night. He definitely deserve the props. He's had a few real good starts lately and I think it's nice to see the guy get some credit.

Keep it up, Jason Marquis! :)

Not only for todays big outing on the road where he helped stop the Cubs worst losing streak of the season with a very good outing(7.1 innings 5 hits 2 ER) [And did we ever need it!]. But for how well he has pitched down the stretch. Would it not be ironic if he went on to become a start of the playoffs? Could happen.

i remember when he signed with the Cubs several Cardinals fans confided and admitted that if stayed away from trying to muscle his fastball past people when things went against him, and relied primarily on his slider he could be very effective. Maybe he's figured something out?

Yesterday's win was huge but the biggest win of the year will be the 1st win of the playoffs (especially if it's game 1) and, of course: #11 of the playoffs. I can't wait. This season can't end fast enough for me.
