I work at a Jewel and he walked up to the counter, and I looked at him for a minute, then I asked him if he played baseball, he said yeah, so I asked if he was Rich Harden, he said yeah...

We shook hands and I told him I was a huge fan. He told me that he was back in town because the games are on hiatus and they're trying to figure out where they'll be able to play. He told me that they're thinking about Tampa, but then we both mentioned how the stadium there sucks. He also said that the Cards said they could play there, but he said something about it being in the division and MLB wouldn't allow it. I asked him how Lou was in the clubhouse, and he said that he's never really seen his bad side because they've been doing well this season, and he said that he's better than the manager that he had in Oakland a couple years ago. I asked him how he liked Chicago compared to Oakland, and he said it's nuts here and the fans make it exciting.

He seemed like a really down to earth guy and if I wasn't working I would have asked him to grab a beer down the street, lol.

Just a cool thing that happened today that I thought I'd share.

Wow thats great. I have to this day get a autograph or meet any of the Cubs and I been a fan for 25 years. Closest I came is I went to Sox fest one year and got Neal Cotts autograph. On the other hand I did meet Aaron Rowland and he is a great guy. We talked about the Bears for a good half an hour. My buddy got Kelly Wunch to have a drink with us and our wifes at the bar our wifes just sat there like statues..lol.

I didn't even think to get an autograph until after he was really gone...I was nervous when I realized it was him but then just talking it was like talking to an old freind, so it didn't even enter my mind.

That's neat. I like hearing stories about players like this. I think peopls forget that they're just human like us. Hope you see him again.

That's pretty sweet. When we saw Harden in Pittsburgh he seemed very nice. Good with the fans. Very personable.
It certainly is nice knowing that the guys on your team aren't just good players, but that they're cool people too. :)

SWEET! To think, you may have shaken the hand of a pitcher who may lead us Cub fans to the Promise Land! How in the world were you able to work for the rest of the day?
