I just read this on msnbc.com and wondered what everyone else would rate their tops. I don't agree with it for the most part, but here's their list:
10. Miracle
9. Something for Joey
8. Caddyshack
7. The Tournament
6. Slap Shot
5. Breaking Away
4. Brian's Song
3. Bull Durham
2. Rocky
1. Hoosiers

How could you leave out the classics like:
The Natural
Eight Men Out
Field Of Dreams
Raging Bull
Bad News Bears
Rudy
Major League........or even
Cool Runnings and BASEketball (that's just for fun) :D

friday night lights and any given sunday.
i doubt if anyone has ever seen escape to victory, but it deserves respect for having sly stallone, pele and nazis.

Actually, the title of the film is just "Victory." Stalone plays an American POW during World War II who ends up as the goal keeper for the POW team against the Nazi guards, who just all happen to be German World Cup players. Of course, the Allied prisoners, except for Michael Caine, also are world-class soccer players, headlined by Pele. There is an interwoven subplot is the POWs try to escape the game at halftime with the help of the French Resistance, but the team decides to stay and win the game, despite being down like 3-1 at half and 4-1 at one point. They do salvage a draw, 4-4, thanks partly to Stalone's character making a brilliant PK save as time expired. Then the French people storm the field to help the POWs escape.

It's called Escape to Victory over here, although imdb agrees with you, but i think our title is better... :)
And "world-class" is not really the right term, except possibly Bobby Moore (but I'm Scottish so i have to deny English players being good..) But the German team was Ipswich Town's reserves, so still much better!
Funny aside, the Ipswich keeper actually saved the first take of pele's overhead kick goal, even though he got it perfectly in the top corner, but pele hit it perfectly again on the next take!
Awesome flick though, shame it's never, ever on tv over here.

worst sports movie ever? Chariots of Fire. I hope none of you guys like it.. because it's the sleepiest movie I've ever seen.

I will agree that Chariots of Fire was a snoozefest but here's some I would consider the worst ever:
Caddyshack II - no comment needed, everyone knows it sucked ***.
The Fan - Robert DeNiro as a knife salesman who's obsessed w/ Wesley Snipes
Ed - One of the dudes from Friends plays baseball with a chimp.

Ok i'm gonna have to disagree with you on these 2, Caddyshack 2 is just as much a classic as part 1...IMO anyway, and i've always loved The Fan, even though it is about THe Giants well i'm just a huge Deniro fan.

Well, it's a good thing we aren't roommates if you liked Caddyshack II and The Fan. Movie nights would be a disaster.....j/k To each their own.

haha hey i like just about anything with Chevy Chase....as far as the roommate thing.....i predominantly watch comedy/horror

Chevy Chase has had his share of good movies. I hope Kevin Smith dies do the Fletch sequel they've been talking about for years........even though Chase won't be Fletch, he would probably have some sort of role.

Tell me about it...i've been waiting on that Fletch remake for awhile now. Of course Chevy would have to have a role in the movie as you said. As far as FLetch himself...the only way it would work is if one of these 2 following actors were brought in to play fletch, anybody else and this film wont work.
Ryan Reynolds
Jason Lee

I don't think Kevin Smith has anyone in mind to play Fletch except Jason Lee. I think that's why making the movie has stalled. I thought I read Chevy was really upset because he wanted the script to be written so he could play Fletch. Kinda tough to do when it's supposedly a prequel. Ryan Reynolds would be pretty hilarious, though. I just watched Waiting again last weekend. Movie cracks me up.

Lol yea "waiting" was a great flick. As far as Fletch goes, I know that originally he wanted Jason Lee to play Fletch...but studio execs and what not didnt agree to that idea cause he wasnt "known" at the time. Since he has exploded onto the scene with "my name is earl", so it would be a good possibility....i've heard rumors of Ryan Reynolds but there was some beef in the past with Kevin Smith supposedly hitting on Ryans wife (Alanis Morisette) but they have since split so who knows what's gonna happen...i think Reynolds would do the best job and i think he's really similiar to Chevy Chase in both physical attributes as well as acting characteristics....theres only 2 MotherF......that make me laugh just by looking at them and thats Chase and Reynolds..Jason Lee would be cool too though. My fave all time Lee character is Brody in "Mallrats"

I love the movie "For the Love of the Game". I could watch it over and over and over. Kevin Costner's character in the movie reminds me of a Greg Maddux (if you follow just the baseball storyline of the movie.)

I saw it last week. Fantastic movie. I highly recommend it. It's sad, funny, exciting, and just a well put together movie considering what it is based on. Go see it if you get a chance.

No, the movie is about Marshall University and is based on the events that took place in Huntington, WV. They actually filmed the movie in the same town with the town's help to make sure they depicted the events in the right way.
