I know he gave up a run today(thanks to Soriano and his brown glove play) but Marshall continues to impress. His curveball has looked very good all season. For some reason when talk of the 5th starter for next season is brought up Marshall's name is last to come up. We hear about Samardzija, Marquis, and Hill. But I think Marshall is the best guy for the job. If given the chance to be that #5 starter next season I can see him winning 12 games. While keeping the Cubs in most of the games he doesn't win. He's shown the ability to pitch well on the road in his starts as well. Sean Marshall will be a solid starting pitcher in this league. I sure hope it's with the Cubs! ..... Hoffpauir has a nice bat. He's shown alot of power in the minors and is starting to at the big league level. But Hoffpauir's bat is where his major league abilities end. He can't play any position in the field. As evident by the last few games. Hoffpauir also doesn't have those intangibles an every day player must posses. As evident by his dumb base running today. But some team in the AL would love to take a look at having Hoffpauir as their every day DH. Instead of using Hoffpauir as a left handed bat coming off the bench for next season the Cubs should try and trade Hoffpauir to an AL team at his highest value. I think the Cubs could get a good player for Hoffpauir, throwing someone else in ofcourse. How about Hoffpauir and Marquis to KC for David DeJesus? ..... Man i'm getting tired of Soriano and his terrible plays in left. An average outfielder catches todays ball in which led to the go ahead run. How many times has Soriano come up short on balls that should have been caught! A few games ago their was that ball that was hit just fair down left field. Soriano has had a good season with the bat. But his outfield play is some of the worse defense i've ever seen!

I think in order to do that the Cubs would have to be willing to eat a good chunk of Marquis' contract. I know he has done plenty to redeem himself since then, but whenever anybody brings up DeJesus I still have flashbacks of him eating a fairly routine ball off his face.
I've learned to deal with Soriano's poor (a lot of other 4 letter words come to mind) defense just because it's obvious he sucks as a left fielder, and it's obvious the Cubs can't afford to have his bat out of the lineup. What frustrates me is his lack of hustle on the in between balls. A guy with his speed should be able to get to most of those balls that he pulls up on.
As far a Hoff goes, I think he should come off the bench in the playoffs. I know it won't happen, but I'd like to see Fukudome in RF in the playoffs. He keeps proving to me, with his glove and his arm, that he needs to be out there. You can't have both of your corner outfielders be defensive liabilities. Dero is ok in right, but I'd much rather have him at 2nd. I just think, unless our offense goes cold, that I'd take our 7 bats with Fukudome in the lineup over the 8 bats of any other NL team.
As for Marshall. I've always liked him since he made his first start versus St. Louis on a Sunday night. I'm pulling for him to be the 5th starter next season, but I'll wait to worry about that until March.

You make some good points in your reply! ... I think you're right the Cubs will have to eat some money if they want to trade Marquis. But I don't think it will have to be more then 1/4 of what he's owed. Marquis stock has gone up as the season has gone on. ... DeJesus is a solid outfielder. KC kinda forced him to play CF early on in his career. But he's naturally a corner outfielder. He's above average defenively. Offensively he's very underrated and coming into his prime. ... Despite what people say Fukudome can be dealt. The Cubs will have to eat some salary, but team like the Padres, Giants, Mariners, and Orioles would bite.

If they trade him to the Royals they would probably have to eat half of it. The only thing that would make KC want him at a higher price is that he used to be a Cardinal. Problem is, not too many Cardinal fans care for him anymore.
DeJesus is an ok outfielder, I wouldn't want him in CF though. Although I will admit that I didn't watch as many Royals games this year as I did when I used to live in Kansas City, so maybe he has improved quite a bit. I never really was sold on him though.
