View Full Version : Chone Figgins

Would you be for or against this? Yes or no? How come?
I think it would be a definite upgrade from going into ST with Pie having it his job to lose. Chone and Soriano would be an awfully fast 1-2 to leadoff a game.

If Hendry MUST bring someone in, Figgins would be a great choice and he could even be an adequate sub at 3rd when Rammy needs a day off.....I still maintain though that i would like to see Pagan in CF for the majority of the season.

He is a FA? Or are the Angels willing to trade him? I would definitely like to see him in a Cubs uniform.

He's not a FA, They may trade him since both their infield and outfield is getting crowded.

I don't think he's even FA eligible yet. I was just asking because LAA are pretty stacked and they did just sign Matthews Jr.

He's young with potential still to come...when he did play last year he was pretty good...He's a switch hitter with power potential and i bet given a full year his avg would be pretty decent..He's also fast, has a good arm and plays good defense. what more can we ask for?

More experience if this is supposed to be a "NOW" team and not a building team would be my only complaint.

More experience is always nice. Pagan might be a pretty d@mn good player though and we have plenty of "experienced" players at just about every position. I could see an outfield with Murton/Floyd in left, Pagan/Jones (if he's not traded) in center and Soriano in right. I just looked at Pagans numbers for 06 and despite the .247 avg, they are pretty good number considering he only had 177 AB's, check it out for yourself http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/player_MLB_career.aspx?sport=MLB&id=371 we also have to remember he was injured for quite awhile, but this guy had a solid spring and he was carrying those number really well into the season until he got hurt.

I have no complaints about Pagan other than lack of experience. I agree that he's got a ton of potential. What I don't see in any of his stats is his experience in CF. I can't really see LAA going with Figgins at 3B for an entire season so that was why I was interested in seeing what people thought of him. I am not really for or against it, but he would bring more experience.
I think the only way that Jones isn't traded is if no other team shows any interest. I don't think any team would want someone on their staff that supposedly asked to be traded...Especially considering the Cubs new attitude of getting it done now.

I think Figgins would be great. He's a switch hitter, and a terrific lead off hitter.
[I would love for Uncle Lou to hit Soriono 5th,behind Lee and
A-Ram,if he has another option leading off]
After all the injuries the Cubs have suffered through the last few seaons, how great would it be to have a couple of players as versatile as Derosa and Figgins?
However, the Cubs and Angels are probably not a match for a trade.
The Angels are looking for help at first and thirdbase.
They did just sign Shea Hillenbrand, who can play some corner infield, but is better suited to DH.
Juan Rivera, who played alot in all three outfield spots for them last year just broke his leg playing winter ball.
So maybe they might have some interest in Jaque Jones.
Great idea,bczar,I love it!!

I wouldn't mind having Figgins in CF...Soriano and Figgins at the top could be deadly..there's 90 stolen bases just in our 1 and 2 holes.

Figgins is definately expendible in LA, but would w be willing to give up? They don't need Jones. They're looking for pitching. He would be a good fit in CF though.
I'd rather not go into the season with Pagan as our starting CF. While he's young with an upside, he's too unproven. Let him get some playing time as the year goes on.
I don't think Pie is ready for the show yet, and there's no reason to rush him. Let him get some AAA time, to build skills.
I like Coco Crisp, but Boston doesn't need another outfielder. I think Jones isn't going anywhere. He's a better option for CF the Soriano Besides, Soriano's ar in RF will be fun t watch.

I wouldnt be against it. Figgins has speed, he's a pretty patient hitter i think, and he definately has years ahead of him and would bring good trade value after next year should JH decide to deal him. but, as with all these other scenarios we have discussed, which young arm would have to go to get him?

The Angels are not really looking for pitching. They are looking for help at firstbase, thirdbase, and the outfield, because of the injury to Juan Rivera.
Hendry might come up with something including JJ,that the Angels might consider for Figgins.
As far as Angel Pagan starting in centerfield,in my humble opinion,he wasn't
a bad player off the bench, when not hurt, last season, but he has only played in 77 games in the big leauges[1 in centerfield].
His stats .247avg.,5HR,18RBI,4SB.
I feel depending on what else Hendry does before the start of the season,
[adding Floyd, trading for a centerfielder, keeping Jones],Pagan might be hard pressed to make the 25 man roster that comes north to start the 2007 season.

thats alot of if's and nobody knows if anyone is gonna take JJ much less give us a CF in return...but i have a feeling no matter what, as long as Pagan has a good spring he'll make the 25 man roster. Perhaps not as a starter, but on the bench most definitely. Hendry really likes Pagan and so does Lou. We'll see though, who knows what Hendry has up his sleeve...i know i'd be happy to see a Crawford, Baldelli, Crisp or Figgins in CF, but lets be realistic the Cubs never go after big names......oh wait i cant say that anymore, Hendry's stepped up the last few years (Rammy, Nomar, Soriano)

But last year he hit .275/16/56 with 47 SB's. He was also playing 60+ games against the Yankees, Red Sox, and Blue Jays, who all have above average pitching staffs. Factor in he was on a team with a ton of holes in their lineup.
Figgins was .266/9/62 with 52 SB's. Aside from that Patterson is a much better defender. I like Figgins, but if I had the choice, I'd take Patterson back.

The first half of the 2003 season, until he injured his knee and missed most of the second half of the season,Corey Patterson was putting it all together.
He hit third in the line up,for awhile with Sosa out with an injury, and during
that part of the season,he was probably the Cubs best clutch hitter.
Then Dusty thought because he could run like a rabbit, that he should be a lead off hitter.[end of 2004 into 2005] The pressure of trying to change his aproach at the plate, and the booing that followed ruined the kid,at least in a Cub uniform.

Patterson had hope, but those last two years as a Cub ruined it for me. It was infuriating to watch him. I used to get so pissed at that guy. Watching him at the plate was like watching Farnsworth come in as relief. I just waited for the dissapointment.
2003 was a good year for a lot of guys on the Cubs. *cough*Prior*cough* I'd like to never think of that season again. If only Alex Gonzalez could have turned that routine DP.

Chone is a talent, but we're not a match for the Angels. They really are looking for another power bat and specifically a power bat at 3rd. Hence their attempt for Ramirez as well as the "close" trade for Crede. Between Garret Anderson, Gary Mathews Jr, Vlad Guerrero, Rivera and whoever else, they don't really need Jones. Sorry. Now lets talk more about Crawford........

Did anyone every think about the fact that Leon Durham replaced Bill Buckner
at firstbase for the Cubs in may of 1984,after Buckner was traded to Boston
for Dennis Eckersly.
They are both most talked about and remembered for"balls between their legs"[so to speak,as are two other big bats Ron Jeremy and John Holmes]
