They reported that Atlanta has called off talks for Peavy.... and now the cubs are back in front for the "Peavy Favorites" and if that doesn't fall through, they would entertain offers from the Yankees....

And.... this one kind of caught me off guard, that the Cubs are looking at Randy Johnson.....

I'll try to find a link.

Interesting stuff...

This was on MLB.com's hot stove blog:

The Cubs would love to re-sign 17-game winner Ryan Dempster, but also are still talking to the Padres who are trying to move Jake Peavy. Peavy has made it known he wants to call Wrigley Field home. However, the Cubs aren't likely to part with someone from the big league club, which would hurt their chances in 2009. If the Padres can find enough talent in the Cubs farm system to satisfy them, then the two could make a deal. The Cubs cannot sign both Dempster and Peavy -- so it will be interesting to see which deal gets done first.

According to the Chicago Tribune, the Cubs are exploring the possibility of signing Randy Johnson to a one-year contract.

Lou Piniella managed the Big Unit in Seattle, which prompted Johnson's agent, Alen Nero, to call the Cubs a "perfect fit." The organization appears focused on re-signing Ryan Dempster at the moment, but it's worth noting that Johnson is 4-0 lifetime at Wrigley field and wants to remain in the National League. This deal could quickly gain some legs.
Source: Chicago Tribune .......... I would love for us to sign Dempster first, then go after Peavy and if that falls through, then go after Johnson.

Randy Johnson would be a terrible signing. This offseason just keeps getting worse and worse.
