David Newhan-OF- Orioles Dec. 29 - 6:29 pm et
Free agent David Newhan indicated he's likely to join either the Mets or Cubs, perhaps on a minor league deal.
The Cubs may have some room for him if they send Ronny Cedeno down to Triple-A to play reguarly. It's unlikely that he'd fit on the Mets unless the team goes with 11 pitchers -- something that will likely prove difficult with a staff full of five- and six-inning starters. Endy Chavez, Julio Franco, Damion Easley and Ramon Castro are guaranteed spots on their bench, and Ben Johnson seems likely to claim the remaining vacancy over Lastings Milledge.

Why the Cubs be interested in him?
