1. A Dying Cub Fans Last Request-A Steve Goodman Great. It was written in 1984 and has references to quite a few of thet '84 Cubs players in it. What is sad, is that Steve Goodman (who also wrote Go Cubs Go and has Cubs players singing in it) died of Leukemia just weeks before the Cubs clinched the division in 1984.

2. Go Cubs Go--did you know that Jody Davis, Keith Moreland, Leon Durham, et al.... sing the chorus of that song.

3. Finally Next Year--by the Ides of March, references Sammy Sosa

4. You're My Cubs--Alan Barcus

5. Men in Blue--the "not so melodically good" song that some of the 1984 Cubs sang

6. The Land of Wrigley--good beat

7. Take Me Out to the Ballgame...harry caray style

8. Hey, Hey Holy Mackeral--Old School

9. It's a Beautiful Day for a Ballgame--Another Old School

10. Jump.

I have them all on my pc. If anyone wants them, let me know, I can email them to you....

A Dying Cub Fan's Last Request (Lyrics)

By the shore's of old Lake Michigan
Where the "hawk wind" blows so cold
An old Cub fan lay dying
In his midnight hour that tolled
Round his bed, his friends had all gathered
They knew his time was short
And on his head they put this bright blue cap
From his all-time favorite sport
He told them, "Its late and its getting dark in here"
And I know its time to go
But before I leave the line-up
Boys, there's just one thing I'd like to know

Do they still play the blues in Chicago
When baseball season rolls around
When the snow melts away,
Do the Cubbies still play
In their ivy-covered burial ground
When I was a boy they were my pride and joy
But now they only bring fatigue
To the home of the brave
The land of the free
And the doormat of the National League

Told his friends "You know the law of averages says:
Anything will happen that can"
That's what it says
"But the last time the Cubs won a National League pennant
Was the year we dropped the bomb on Japan"
The Cubs made me a criminal
Sent me down a wayward path
They stole my youth from me
(that's the truth)
I'd forsake my teachers
To go sit in the bleachers
In flagrant truancy

and then one thing led to another
and soon I'd discovered alcohol, gambling, dope
football, hockey, lacrosse, tennis
But what do you expect,
When you raise up a young boy's hopes
And then just crush 'em like so many paper beer cups.

Year after year after year
after year, after year, after year, after year, after year
'Til those hopes are just so much popcorn
for the pigeons beneath the 'L' tracks to eat
He said, "You know I'll never see Wrigley Field, anymore before my eternal rest
So if you have your pencils and your score cards ready,
and I'll read you my last request
He said, "Give me a double header funeral in Wrigley Field
On some sunny weekend day (no lights)
Have the organ play the "National Anthem"
and then a little 'na, na, na, na, hey hey, hey, Goodbye'
Make six bullpen pitchers, carry my coffin
and six ground keepers clear my path
Have the umpires bark me out at every base
In all their holy wrath
Its a beautiful day for a funeral, Hey Ernie lets play two!
Somebody go get Jack Brickhouse to come back,
and conduct just one more interview
Have the Cubbies run right out into the middle of the field,
Have Keith Moreland drop a routine fly
Give everybody two bags of peanuts and a frosty malt
And I'll be ready to die

Build a big fire on home plate out of your Louisville Sluggers baseball bats,
And toss my coffin in
Let my ashes blow in a beautiful snow
From the prevailing 30 mile an hour southwest wind
When my last remains go flying over the left-field wall
Will bid the bleacher bums ad?eu
And I will come to my final resting place, out on Waveland Avenue

The dying man's friends told him to cut it out
They said stop it that's an awful shame
He whispered, "Don't Cry, we'll meet by and by near the Heavenly Hall of Fame
He said, "I've got season's tickets to watch the Angels now,
So its just what I'm going to do
He said, "but you the living, you're stuck here with the Cubs,
So its me that feels sorry for you!"

And he said, "Ahh Play, play that lonesome losers tune,
That's the one I like the best"
And he closed his eyes, and slipped away
What we got is the Dying Cub Fan's Last Request
And here it is

Do they still play the blues in Chicago
When baseball season rolls around
When the snow melts away,
Do the Cubbies still play
In their ivy-covered burial ground
When I was a boy they were my pride and joy
But now they only bring fatigue
To the home of the brave
The land of the free
And the doormat of the National League

I am listening to the Sports Central tribute to Harry...the day after he died. They have Mark Grace, Ryno, Andre Dawson and others on there remembering Harry!

I was just listening to game one of the September 27th, 2003 game one when Andy Masur came on to say they Brewers had just beaten the Astros and no sooner that Ron said "Wait until the fans see this on the scoreboard" The crowd roars and Pat says the crowd gives a standing ovation because they just put the final up on the board....I GOT GOOSEBUMPS! UGH! 90 days is just too darn long!

It did make me sigh in sadness a lot. Hearing them say, "...and hopefully this is the first step to the whole thing, the World Series title". Little did those fool's know how quick things would turn against us.

I was just watching a clip of them celebrating when they clinched on YouTube. I really wish I had games taped so I could watch them.

I did tape game two of the double header that day. I was at work and called my mom after Game One when the Astros lost to the Brewers and told her she had to run home and put in a tape for me. I have the clincher and all of the playoff games on tape from 2003. I learned from that and tape every game. If it wasn't a game worth keeping, I tape over it. The good ones, I keep for the offseason. I really thought a couple of times I was going to get Zambrano pitching a no-no on tape. I also keep a tape of all of the games I go to. Helps in the offseason.

However, I did watch the '03 clincher the other night and couldn't believe how many things were said that were like "jinxes".... Chip says "Barring any major disaster, these fans are going to have dreams come true".... Dave Otto (Steve Stone was off due to a Jewish Holiday) made a comment about proving the Curse is non-existent.

Watching it all, brought tears to my eyes because we were SO close. I remember tears welling up as Dusty walked to the mound to get Clement and the crowd roared and gave Matt a standing O...goosebumps.... and how I felt so nervous that they brought Dave Veeres (sp?) in to close it out. It was as if I was watching it new all over again...then I remembered the outcome....:(
