Does anyone know when they plan to announce the inductees for the HOF this year?
Gwynn and Ripken are sure things, but I would really like to see Ronny and Hawk (Dawson that is) get the nod too. Any thoughts on who else has a "good chance" to make the Hall this year?

I believe they said it will be announced the 9th. I think the Hawk may have a shot this year he recieved 61 percent of the vote last year I think he may be able to pick up the other 14 percent this year that he missed it by last year.

You know Gwynn & Ripken are shoe-ins, and they deserve first balot status. I don't think McGwire's going to get in this year.
I'd like to see Dawson & Garvey get the nod...

Anyone know when the Veterans' Committee makes its vote, so we know when Santo finally gets enshrined?

I think it's the 27th of February.

Oh man, I really hope Santo gets in, he really deserves it. I mean, he was a great player, and he did it all while struggling with diabetes. He's a great man and I hope he finally gets in this year.

I totally agree. Santo is so great for baseball and with all he has done for the game both we he played and after he retired, how can you not put the guy in? It's really a shame. I just hope for his sake they finally get him in there.

I don't see Garvey getting in. He just doesn't have the numbers. Besides, many older Cubs fans don't like Steve Garvey because of 1984...
Very similar to Will Clark. Cub Killer in '89, but not HOF material...

Yeah, he does. I would give up Dawson for another year to get Santo in the Hall this year. He must have really pissed some people off to not get in the HOF by now...

I think the problem is that the Cubs of the 1960s already have three players, yet they couldn't get it done and get into the post season. Possibly, HoF voters don't think the Cubs deserve another player from that era.

Neither Garvey or Santo will get in. It's great that all us Cubbie fans want Ronny in ( I personally don't think he deserves it ) , but you can't bash Garvey just because we all hate him ala '84. Garvey had better career numbers than Ronny in every catagory except HR's and a few RBI's.

Totally disagree with you. First off, you are comparing a first baseman with a third baseman. Third is a much harder postion to play. You just have to show up to play first base...PLUS there are many better 1B for Garvey to be compared to.
Compare Ronny to the HOF 3B and he is the easily the best 3rd baseman not in the HOF. He had a much better OBP and Slugging % also. He also played 4 less years. He gets to play four more years and we aren't even having this discussion. Maybe Ronny is not a definite HOFer, but he is definitely more deserving than Garvey.

Neither deserve to be in. Just because you think he is the best still on the outside , that means nothing. There will always be someone who is the best that is not in. The position they plays means nothing as well. You either have HOF numbers or not. I have never been a Pete Rose fan , but if they don't put him in , they need to burn Cooperstown down.

Huh, seems the same was argued about Sandberg. Do you think he is undeserving?

I don't recall anything being argued about Ryno getting in. Best defensive 2b ever and all-time HR leader at the position. Only player to ever get 2 gold gloves his first 2 seasons , at 2 different positions. Hmmm...get your facts straight.

"The position they plays means nothing as well. You either have HOF numbers or not."
This is a direct quote from what you said earlier. Don't get me wrong. I like Sandberg and definitely think he belongs in the HOF, but, your argument makes zero sense. The postion he plays matters for Sandberg, but not for Santo. Way to be a hypocrite. Also, Sandberg NEVER won a gold glove at any other position than 2B. If HOF numbers were all that mattered then they would either both be in or neither. Another thing is that I think you should get your memory checked because people were saying that Sandberg's range was less than steller and that he didn't make a lot of errors because of that. I don't really agree, but that IS what was said. The fact that he was not voted in on the first ballot also proves there WERE people not convinced of his HOF status.
