I had to laugh.... I was reading chicagosports.com.... and they listed some of the terms for his new contract, which includes a an extra $150,000--if he wins the World Series MVP.

Old Jim must have had to try hard not to crack a smile on that one! First of all, as much as I hope and pray that this is the year, the Cubs haven't even been to a World Series since 1945...long before the boy was a glimpse in his GRANDPARENTS eyes... Secondly, IF the Cubs win the Series (knocking on wood)... he has a lot of competition on our team to beat out...Lee, Ram, Soriano....

Nothing wrong with being optimistic...REALISTIC may be another thing, however....

Yea it is pretty funny I do admit, but maybe it's just a little boost for him to try harder.

you never know, I mean if Eckstein can win it. After that I have to admit as much as I despised Neifi I don't think I could count him out from a MVP now....lol

It's a good incentive but.....not gonna happen. Cotts winning MVP that is.

I wonder how many contracts have that clause in them. I'll bet there are more than not. What does a team have to lose by putting it in there? Not much of a gamble.

Has a middle relievr ever won WS MVP? They should have also put in a million dollar bonus if he leads the league in HR's...

I think Soriano has an incentive like that but I may be wrong.

I'd be willing to bet that many of the players have them. it's just a little bonus to get them to sign, plus incentive to play up to their best.

Plus, there is the possibility that he will start. While I don't want to see it, it could happen and has been talked about when he was traded. A starter winning the MVP is not that far off. But when we go to the WS this year, and narrow our rotation down to 4, I hope we don't need Cotts to be one of them.

Well, we know one thing: if Cotts win the W.S. MVP, it means we got ourselves a championship! Knowing that, I could care less who wins the MVP award. :D

Why the hell not put it in there? Im sure JH would be more than happy to write that check. I wouldnt care if he put an extra zero on the end of it too!

Exactly my earlier point. These incentives are in all kinds of contracts. Only one player in the major leagues will be awarded MVP of the world series. the chances are good that the team in question won't have to pay it, but wow, what if they do? we all know what that means.

MY THOUGHTS EXACTLY! I was going to post this exact same thing in the thread about "What If..." All of this Cubs talk is making me go crazy...in January! I had to pull out my old tapes. Watched the game last night where Z almost had the no-no going.
