Peavy looks to be heading to White Sox!!!

both CSN and The Score are reporting that the White Sox have a deal in place, pending his approval, for a trade which will bring Jake Peavy to the White Sox..... he wants out... and likes Chicago...

well, at least it's not the Brewers!

A team from Chicago is showing interest in trading four players for Jake Peavy – but for now, it's not the Cubs.
It's the White Sox.
According to Padres personnel, Peavy met with Padres manager Bud Black late Wednesday night to discuss a trade overture from the Sox.
Peavy, whose consent would be needed for a trade to any club, declined all comment after meeting with Black.

Within the clubhouse, though, Peavy referred to the situation as “something to think about” yet also restated his desire to stay in the National League. One of Peavy's teammates said he believes Peavy respects the Sox's aggressiveness in pushing for him but may have reservations about pitching for Ozzie Guillen, the White Sox's volatile manager.
The Cubs and Padres were deep into trade talks in December, but the Cubs walked away, said Padres General Manager Kevin Towers. The Padres are about $5 million above the $40 million player payroll that Towers said the club's majority owner, John Moores, has mandated for this season and could hit that number by moving Peavy, who is due $11 million this season

I will believe it when it is done. I can't see them spending the money after they have cut thier payroll so much.

I don't think- Sox are going to give up top two pitching prospects- We should have done this regardless of the ownership situation. I hope we can pick the bone of a northwest team:mad: for a pitcher if we don't get Peavy.

The White Sox are more then willing to take on Peavy's money. They are also willing to give up 3 to 4 pitching prospects. So far it's just Peavy who's holding this up. These things have a funny way of working out though.

I will believe it when it is done. I can't see them spending the money after they have cut thier payroll so much. I understand that you're one of these people that believes the economy is the reason for everything negative. But baseball hasn't been hit as hard as you make it out to have been hit. 16 of the 30 teams in baseball have INCREASED their payrolls from last season. Of the 14 teams that did decrease payroll, the Brewers, Reds, and O's decreased by only around 1 million. The Yankees are officially a team who's payrolls decreased, and that's because they had alot of turnover. They spent like crazy this off-season. So nothing that drastic has changed for teams. Like always, certain teams make cuts because of ownership, and certain teams spend. Players got big contracts this off-season, and those who waited it out got squeezed. No impact players went un-signed. And fans are going to games like they always do. This knee-jerk "economy" blame does impact the real world. But in basebaall it hasn't done as much as people think.

Well...he rejected the trade...but I look at some positives here.... his agent did say today that he wants to remain in the NL, with the Cubs and Brewers at the top of his list. But what I found even more interesting is that the Padres were willing to take FOUR and not SEVEN people in return, all being younger players. The price for Peavy is going down. The only thing that I think can really hurt our chances is the sale of the team will not be completed before the trade deadline...and with Ricketts even looking toward celebrities to buy into the team to help ease the financial part of it, I don't know as if we would see hendry being able to add that much payroll without the sale being done.

It should start getting interesting.
