Have you guys heard anything about Cliff Floyd lately? I'm still hoping they don't sign him, but since I feel that way, they probably will.

Cliff Floyd-OF- Mets Jan. 10 - 12:49 pm et
The Cubs haven't made any progress recently in talks with free agent Cliff Floyd.
The Chicago Tribune reported three weeks ago that the two sides were close to deal, but the paper has had little to say on the subject since. If the season started today, the Cubs would likely go with an outfield with Matt Murton in left, Jacque Jones in center and Alfonso Soriano in right. Trading Jones remains a possibility, but they don't seem to see Soriano as an option in center, meaning they'd have to get a stopgap back with Felix Pie still not ready.

Personally, I hope we don't sign him. Give Murt a chance to play a whole season and show what he is capable of.

I would also like to see what kind of numbers Murton is able to put up in a full season. I don't see the upside to Floyd is, he is up thetre in years and is injury prone. IMO he wouldn't benefit the team offensivly or defensively.

The last thing the Cubs need right now is another injury prone player. Their focus right now should be Zambrano, a solid centerfielder who can be a strong number two hitter. I think the team has a good mix of veterans and young players. I think Murt should get a chance-and don't forget about Pagan off the bench. Who knows, maybe Pie will show up to spring training and dazzle us all and solve some problems, but ONLY if he is ready would I be all for that.

Floyd would be good insurance in case one of our starters went down but I wouldn't want him taking AB's away from Murt.
I think Murt should bat in the 2 hole..IMO...:)

The Cubs are interested. Prior and Wood need someone to talk to.
