The Cubs signed Casey Fossum and assigned him to Triple A Iowa, according to MiLB.com (http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?t=l_trn&lid=112&sid=l112). He became a free agent last week when he opted out of his contract (http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2009/06/casey-fossum-becomes-a-free-agent.html) with the Yankees. Fossum had been pitching in Triple A Scranton since the Yankees picked him up in May. The Cubs will be his his third organization of the year, as he pitched briefly with the Mets before they designated him for assignment (http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2009/04/mets-dfa-fossum.html).

In other earth-shattering news, the Iowa cubs got Matt Craig back as well, so he can rack up another 10 years of minor league service time.

Fossums numbers look good. The problem is RHs hit him better than lefthanders
