He's a FA after the year. If I were Hendry I would go after him; but the Cubs probably don't have enough $$$ to keep him in Chicago after the year; who knows if they have $$ for a major midseason acquisition anyway.

who do you give up to get him? plus, harden is a FA this year so i would say resign him, but theyre going to want a lot for halladay thats for sure the ace of their staff.

I'm not so sure the Cubs will be quick to resign him(Harden) if he doens't turn it around in the second half.
I think the Cubs pitching prospects can certainly match up with what the Brewers, Phils, or Dodgers have. Beyond that, I'm not sure

so bock are you saying that you would trade for him, or no because our prospects are good enough to not go after it?

If I were Jim Hendry and got the go-ahead I personally would.
I disagree with DLee, I think the cubs have the talent level, at least with Vitters/Casto and on the pitching side with Cashner/Jackson/Coleman/Carpenter, etc.
The jays are set in the OF/DH with Rios/Wells/Lind/Snider. The only spots would think they are looking for position-wise would be 1b/3b (vitters) and SS.

I would be happy with just another LH reliever. Im not saying we dont need other things, but this to me is a huge need.

Personally I think the team is ok as well, but alot can happen inbetween now and the 31st.....
Like a starting pitcher breaking his toe running out of the dugout.

Hart is coming back up tonight and throwing tomorow.
When I tuned in tonight and heard that I was thinking maybe Jeff S would be a better candidate to start against the Braves. But then again "Who am I too attempt to out-think the brain trust of Lou P and our GM Jim H"?
Big Z only gave up 2 runs tonight trouble is we only got one. :(
Tommorrow is another day keep the faith. ;)

im not sure Jeff S is ready for the job of starting a game, but im not sure Hart is either, Samarsjza or however you spell it looked horrible when he was in the other day giving up a big homerun, but if the offense steps up should be able to carry him along, id be more adapt to starting marshall, the braves have a lot of left handed hitters in their line up

I am sure Hendry will trade whatever it takes to put us in a position to win it all this year. This is our last chance , until some of these long term contracts run out.
He is a great pitcher but I just don't know if that is what we need to put us over the top.

would you say just a left handed reliever would be best?

There really is not much out there to chose from . Most teams are bunched up and with the wild card there is not too many teams that are out of it.
The trade of Doc that would be best for us is if he stays in the AL and doesn't go to the Cards or Brewers !

Cardinals Have "Real" Interest In Halladay
By Drew Silva [July 8 at 9:34pm CST]
According to Joe Strauss of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the Cardinals' interest in Blue Jays ace Roy Halladay is very real.
Here's what Strauss tweeted just a moment ago: Asked about the price tag for Halladay, a club source said: "Give Ricciardi all our minor-league rosters and let him circle any 5 names."
A deal with the Cardinals would start with Brett Wallace, and might also include shortstop Pete Kozma, catcher Bryan Anderson, outfielder Daryl Jones and/or right-hander Clay Mortensen. We're just throwing the Birds' top prospects out on the table, but that's what it's going to take. According to Erik Manning of FutureRedbirds.net, via the Post-Dispatch's Bernie Miklasz, the Jays "showed a lot of pre-draft interest" in both Wallace and Kozma.

We are done if they get him. They are one good starter away from running away with this division !
Hell , I think we are done any ways.

The real scary thing is that because of their recent stinginess, they have a bunch of money coming off the books the next two years; while the cubs are stuck with who we have, plus whatever scraps come out of the farm system.

Exactly !!
That is why I have been so hyper over what has gone on so far this season. Last year they kept saying " this is the year " , it really is the year now. If this team is not good enough to win this year , it will not be good enough for four or five years ( strangely the same amount of time on Soriano's contract )
I really don't think it is good enough. Usually when you have a team that is under-performing you will see the occasional game where they do click and have a laugher. We have not seen it this year and the only laugher we had last year was with the Pirates.
I think what we see is what this team is.
btw. I don't feel good about this next series.

this next series will be bad, our pitching is going to be okay i think, but we need guys to start hitting, and to have Lou leave the guys who are hitting in the game and not have them out of the line up, Fuku, Theriot, Lee, soriano, bradley, Aram, Font, Soto and then pitcher
