Catcher Geovany Soto was scratched from the starting lineup on Wednesday after suffering a mild left oblique strain during batting practice.
Soto will get an MRI later today, and the Cubs will make a decision on whether to put him on the disabled list by Friday. Koyie Hill replaces Soto in the lineup, with Jake Fox as the emergency catcher. Fox is starting in left field in place of Alfonso Soriano, with Andres Blanco giving Ryan Theriot a blow at short. Milton Bradley is back in right field, batting second behind Kosuke Fukudome.
Lou Piniella was in a cranky mood before today's game, apparently upset about the inconsistency of the offense and another strong performance by a Cubs starter that was wasted last night.
"We've got to hit," he said. "You're 15th in the league in runs scored. Not going to get it done. Period. I mean we can mask this any way we want to mask it, but we've got to start scoring runs with more consistency to win baseball games. If we hit the ball and continue to pitch, we'll be fine. If we don't, we're going to struggle."
Here we go again!
