In Sammy's defense, steroids or not, he really never had any protection with exception to his last few yrs and the McGriff days. This is another reason that it unbelievable how many HRs he did hit. I remember one year I think he hit 64- the next closest guy on the team was Rondell White with 18. Pitchers actually pitched to him because they thought they could strike him out. It was actually a benefit to Sammy that he did strike out a lot.
