The Blue Jays will have a scout at tomorrow's workout by free-agent pitcher Ben Sheets, but he's "all but signed by the Chicago Cubs. …"
This is a quote from The GlobeandMail.com I dont know how much stock to put into it.

How many times did we hear Peavy was "all but signed by the Cubs"? I expect there won't be any sort of news until after he has thrown. I don't know of many teams that are going to be able to throw the kind of money he wants his way with the unknown of how long he really will stay healthy.

Oh I know. I just post what I hear (unless someone beats me to it cause Im not at a computer)
This "article" makes it sound like if the workout session goes well, then the Cubs will sign him.

They don't have it. It looks like the payroll is going to be $5-6 million less than last year when all is said done.
BTW it sounds like the Rangers are going to sign Sheets.
It's quite ironic, the toughest pitcher in modern MLB history doesn't seem to mind taking chances on guys like Harden and Sheets. Harden and Sheets for $16 million combined is a steal.
Say Harden and Sheets give the Rangers 250+ quality IP. That's a hell of a deal compared to Sabbathia, Santana, Peavy, Zambrano, Beckett, Lackey, Dempster etc.

I don't think he will end up in Chicago and I'm not sure if that's really a bad thing. As talented as he is, his health is always an issue seemingly every year.

A’s sign free-agent RHP Sheets

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP)—Once Billy Beane received positive word on Ben Sheets’ throwing session last week, the Oakland general manager pounced.
The pitcher’s agent had an impressive offer in hand from the Athletics practically by the time Sheets was done icing down his arm afterward. It was merely an hour later.
Oakland took a mighty gamble Tuesday on Sheets, agreeing to terms with the free-agent righty on a $10 million, one-year contract only 11 months after he underwent elbow surgery that sidelined him all of last season.
A four-time All-Star, the 31-year-old Sheets becomes the team’s second-highest paid player behind six-time Gold Glove third baseman Eric Chavez.

Let's make an informal new rule: never again can a player be described as "all but signed by" or "all but traded to" the Cubs.
