That would be nice if that happens.....I think i would actually cry if he ever left the Cubs.

I don't like the fact he waited this long to try to get something done with Z. He should have been one of the first priorities on Hendry's list. I don't want to see any arbitration hearings happen at all.

Does anyone honestly think that Hendry has forgotten about Zambrano? I've heard nothing about Zambrano complaining that he wasn't taken care of first. Hendry knows exactly what he has with Carlos and isn't going to let him go. I like to think it's very unlikely that this team would lose him to arbitration.

I have no doubt that we will have Z locked up long term, however, just look how much the market has jumped for pitchers as solid as he is.... if Hendry would have gotten it done before Zito had signed with his multi-year, multi-million dollar contract, The Cubs could have locked Z up a lot cheaper than it is going to be now.

Zambrano very well might've wanted to wait to see what happened to the market with Zito and Schmidt being the top FA's. He's going to score a payday now that no pitcher should be paid, regardless of how good they are. JMO

I think Z will get offered what Zito was offered per year but not in terms of his 7 years.IMO

I agree,ryno4ever. Hendry and The Cubs will not let Big Z walk, based on how much money they have thrown around lately, but it seems to have made more sense to try to get something done before Zito signed.

From what I've heard, his agent didn't want to have talks untill seeing what Zito got. A smart move on their part. Not good for the Cubs, but good for Zambrano.

Actualy I think it was a smart move all the way around because this way he gets the money that he would go for on the market and then you don't have someone unhappy a year down the road requesting a trade or wanting to renegotiate their contract and his focus will then remain on doing what he does best. Go ahead JH hand him that check I am sure he can fill in the blanks just like the HOF does their form letters......

I was wondering what was happening with Big Z. I want to see him get taken care of, but it's unfortunate from a team perspective that Zito set the bar so high with that ridiculous contract. I mean, if Zito can make $18 mil/yr, Big Z is worth at least $20 mil/yr. Pretty outrageous amounts for any guy who only pitches every 5th day.
