From an article on Cubs.com

CHICAGO -- Think Derrek Lee is eager to get started on the 2007 season? Shortly after the first of the year, he sent a text message to a few of his Cubs teammates saying, "This is the year."

If he's this confident, just think of how he'll do when he takes that confidence to the field. GOD I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE SEASON TO START!!!

Here's (http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20070110&content_id=1776399&vkey=news_chc&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc) the rest of the article

Nice....they are anxious, too! 35 days until pitchers and catchers report!!! 40 until the rest of the team shows up! Can this offseason drag along anymore slowly???

I've been thinkin the same thing.

It was going so fast there for awhile, when Hendry was making all his moves....not anymore though.

Ya know I always look forward to spring training. I think this is the 1st time in quite awile that this team wants to win and no exuses allowed! This makes me happy because hopefully I won't be throwing my champaigne bottle into the street this year!

Well there aren't really any deals to be made. There's been speculation about Cliff Floyd, but they've said they're close to a deal since the beginning of the offseason, so I'm not sure how true that is.

There's also Zambrano, I do hope that happens soon.

I saw a report on Cubs.com Q&A with Carie Muskat...they asked about the Floyd deal and she said they were really monitoring his medial records closely. I think maybe they are trying to decide if he is worth the risk...OR maybe they have a deal brewing with Jones and seeing where that goes. Didn't Jones sign a long term deal last year? It may be hard to trade him off.

JJ got a three (or was it 4, had a few pints and cant remember for sure) year deal- if he keeps up solid numbers, particularly in the first half, he would make great trade bait to someone lacking power from the leftside. question is, can floyd make up those numbers on a daily basis? personally i doubt it. we are lacking left handed hitting and right now we need Jones.

Reading that article just brought up the great feelings again of when Aramis signed his new deal and gave up what he did. Cubs fans better give him a standing ovation at Wrigley during the home opener. Definitely my favorite Cubbie right now.

I'm with Lee....THIS IS THE YEAR!! :D :D

Yes I would have to agree Scuba he definatly deserves a standing ovation. What kills me is all the people I heard saying that was to much money for Aram when he actually took a discount from what he could have recieved on the market. What it amounts to is their team didn't get a chance at him!!

Yeah, Sheff, no kidding. Also, you gotta love his line about not wanting his contract to be bigger than Lee's, even though it ended up being that way. I mean, when do you ever see a player act like that? Ummm, never. The guy is a stud all the way around.

Agreed....there was one poster last night that said the Mulder signing was a great signing by the Cards even though he was still rehabbing and not able to pitch.....I guarantee you if JH would've signed him he would've been all over JH...I called it out on him last night and he hasn't responded yet.

ps-not on this board...:)

It's nice to hear that the players are getting psyched. I think Ramirez leaving his money on the table was the most important thing that happened this off-season. It sent a message to other players around the league that being a Cub is a positive thing...despite the team's poor showing last season.

Is it finally our year?

I hope that it is our year. We need it and the team wants it that helps.

Its just so refreshing to have our stars have that kind of confidence and not be afraid to be vocal about it. Its a contagious attitude that is nothing but positive for the team. And to have that kind of commitment from Aram is outstanding, it means so much to us as fans to know that he really cares about this team and its fans. These guys want to win. That is an attitude that has been sorely lacking in this organization the last few years.

ARAM took a very serious "Home Team Discount", when you look at what teams ended up paying. I was worried that he was going to the American League to the Angels but his Cubbie Blue kept him here. After it was all said and done I thought of Andre Dawson when he was playing for the Expo's and became a free agent. Didn't he come to the Cub's and told them he wanted to be in Chicago and let the team fill in the blank? Good thing my wife wasn't the GM. She would have given him all of QVC and the Home Shopping Network!

That is true, about Dawson telling the Cubs to fill in the $$ amount on his contract. The Hawk wanted to play on grass because of his bad knees, and was smart enough to know the Cubs, and Wrigley Field were a perfect fit for him.It worked out great for him,the team, and us Cub fans.

Seems wierd to me thinking of how in 2003, Derrek Lee was part of the Marlins, the team that kept us from getting to the World Series when everyone thought we'd finally make it. And now he's a Cub, and he wants to do everything to win it for the Cubs this year.

^Lol i actually used to not like D-Lee, when he was a marlin but before the NLCS incident....i just couldnt stand the way he wore his pants which at the time came all the way down to the bottom of his shoes.

If he hits like he did in 2005, let him hit naked for all I care.

He IS a stud all the way around  and he does deserve a standing ovation on Opening Day at Wrigley Field! But of course, I've known this since he became a Cub in July 2003. I believe what he did sent a positive message and set things in motion for all of the signings that have taken place since 11/12/06. He really set a great example just by being himself.

Maybe they'll have the same relaxed attitude too like the Red Sox did in '04. Now we just need to come up with a new "Cowboy Up" slogan that fits the Cubbies! :D
