I dont like this signing...this guy is just another Jose Macias and honestly if we really needed another utility infielder then we should have kept Jerry Hairston.

Cubs add another do-everything Perez

The Cubs' next Neifi Perez, who was traded to Detroit near the end of last season, could be Tomas Perez, whom the club signed to a minor-league contract Friday.
The newest Perez, 33, can play all infield positions and will attend major-league camp with expectations that he will be a backup infielder. He played in 99 games with Tampa Bay last season, hitting .212.
But he started 99 games, including 33 games at shortstop, 18 at second base and 13 at third. He also has played in the outfield and first base.
Tomas Perez is a .240 career batter with 24 home runs for three different teams.

I just hope this doesn't hinder Scott Moore, Cedeno, or Theriot. I almost forgot about Ward as the backup first baseman. I think we need more help in the outfield than the infield.

There is a slight difference there though because we now have a new manager who is gonna play the better guy. So this guy will be used as it says (a back up) Neifi was misused by Dusty lastyear.

Man I hope so. It was like Dusty and Nefi were drinking buddies or something judging by how much Baker played him.

I agree. I don't see how you could give this guy playing time over Theriot. Hopefully he enjoys a great, long season down in AAA. ;)

He won't even be on the big club. He'll be down in AAA.

I agree, with Theriot,Cedeno, and the versatility of Derosa, the Cubs don't need a utility infielder with not much of a bat.
We still need help in the outfield. Maybe Hendry has something cooking to get an outfielder involving either Cedeno or[heaven forbid Theriot].

When was Neifi misused? Oh yeah every time he played!! Although he did have a pretty good 2005.

remember when we signed augie ojeda this time last year?

i reckon this will work out about the same. there's no space for cedeno on the 25-man, let alone some random from tampa.
