AN FRANCISCO - Barry Bonds and the San Francisco Giants completed a $15.8 million, one-year contract Monday night after the slugger spent hours at the ballpark being examined by team doctors.

A baseball official confirmed the deal, speaking on condition of anonymity because the club had not yet announced it.

The contract was finalized nearly two months after the sides reached agreement on financial terms Dec. 7, the final day of baseball's winter meetings. Bonds had to pass a physical, and the parties had to work out complicated language regarding Bonds' behavior and what would happen if the slugger were to be indicted.

A federal grand jury is investigating whether Bonds perjured himself when he testified in 2003 in the Bay Area Laboratory Co-Operative steroid distribution case that he hadn't knowingly taken any performance-enhancing drugs.

Bonds waved, yelled "hello, hello" and smiled as he left the stadium Monday and drove away, with agent Jeff Borris in the passenger seat. Borris did not immediately return calls from The Associated Press.

The 42-year-old Bonds begins the 2007 season with 734 home runs, 22 from breaking Hank Aaron's career record of 755.

I hope he breaks something instead of a record this year, maybe a leg or a blown out knee

His contract can get terminated (love that word) if he's indicted according to his new contract.

Then let's hope the U.S. attorney can find something that sticks on Bar-roid.

I don't care. We should ban Bonds threads from this forum. Or atleast have a filter. The guy gets way to much attention and takes all the time on sportscenter, and espnews. I don't care. I would actually like for the sports nation to start complaining or talking about other athletes for once.

It's only get worse, dlee.... when he gets even closer to Aaron's record, you can bet it will dominate the sporting world. I agree that he is not worth the time to write about...but being the offseason...and being I believe he is damaging the integrity of baseball history...it does give us something to bitch about, even though there isn't a darn thing we can do but hope and pray that not a single pitcher pitches to the jerk...or hits is a** every time...then try to watch the old fool try to run, maybe re-injure the knee to where he spends most of his time on the DL until the grand jury hands down an indictment...and the Giants will get to void his contract!

I am gonna laugh when they void his contract when he is one homer way from the record. But then he will just sign with another team.

Hey Ryno,
Do you happen to know how much time we're dealing with between Opening Day and when the grand jury could be handing down an indictment? The writers have to have something to write about on a day-to-day basis in the offseason to keep the up the interest. We can only hope and PRAY for lots of DL time for this guy.:D

Well, in the other thread, it's been announced the contract Barry signed was voided by MLB because of personal appearances, and then Barry said he wouldn't sign the revised tender. He probably won't even make opening day now.
