Question Question

When was the last time we had a rookie position player to step in and have an immediate impact and go on and have a great career. I mean Young from the DBacks, Braun, Pence, heck basically all the Brewers look like they are going to be good. Jerome Walton won R. O. Y. , but never did anything else. The last one I can think of is Grace. Now remember I said position players- not pitchers

I thought Grace came after Dunston, I may be wrong. I loved Dunston.

Theriot isn't technically a rookie, but he has been that guy.

You are right Doba. I forgot about him. I guess I was just thinking rookie, but basically what I meant was a home grown player.

No, you are right skip.... Dunston was before Grace! As far as position players, we've had a lot of prospects that have either been traded off or brought up too soon (Patterson....). I think the Cubs have focused more on pitching than fielding.

Palmeiro and Joe Carter ring a bell - eventhough we got Sutcliffe in the Joe Carter deal and Mitch Williams for Palmerio

Yea, it's frustrating

Guys like Ryan Braun and Tulowitzki come out looking like perenial all-stars and Pie comes out and hits in the low 200s.

Maybe next year is Pie's year, hopefully.

Do any of you think that Pie has been over-hyped, or do you think the light will go on with him eventually to elevate him to star status? I like the friendship that Pie and Soriano has developed and maybe Felix will be the Theriot of next season, to play himself right into the starting lineup.

idk about all star but i do think he will get over that hump and hit well in the bigs... its like hes doing what rich hill was... destroy in the minors and come up and struggle.
