Good Idea?

The Cubs are considering bringing up Jeff Samardzija when rosters expand Sept. 1. Samardzija, who's best known as a Notre Dame wide receiver, is now a pitcher in the Cubs' system and has impressed since being promoted from Class-A Daytona to Double-A Tennessee

I read this and thought I'd share it. What do you think of this possibility? It would be cool to see him and see what he's got. Hopefully if he did get called up he could help our bullpen.

I think it would be really cool, but seriously how much could he contribute?

Well, either give him some bullpen innings or a spot start in September to rest either Marquis, Hill or Marshall before the postseason, and we'd get a sense why the Cubs drafted and signed him to such a good deal. Heck, all the Catholics in Chicagoland and Irish fans would love to see him pitch in Wrigley.

I think it would be cool. They always said he was gonna be on the fast track to the big leagues, so why not give him a shot? And I heard he's been doing really well in AA, so it probably couldn't hurt.

If we brought him up I'd love to see him contribute. If he could help stabalize the bullpen and secure a division title he'd definatley earn a spot on the playoff roster.

If he is pitching better than he was at the beginning of the season, MAYBE, but this September isn't going to be like the last couple of years.... and it isn't really a time to experiment. We're contenders this year.

I can't stand Notre Dame! But I still think it's too much of a risk to bring him up. You're right, it isn't the time to experiment.
