Eyre activated, Marshall sent to Iowa
The Chicago Cubs activated lefthander reliever Scott Eyre from the disabled list on Friday prior to the opener of a weekend series with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Eyre, 35, missed the first 34 games of the season for Chicago due to inflammation in his left elbow, getting placed on the shelf on March 23.
Prepared to start his third season with the Cubs, Eyre went 2-1 with a 4.13 ERA in 55 appearances last year.
To open a roster spot for Eyre, Chicago optioned lefthander Sean Marshall to Iowa of the Class AAA Pacific Coast League. In 13 games this season, Marshall is 0-0 with a save and a 4.15 ERA in 8 2/3 innings.
