I don't think Miles was brought in to start, let alone lead-off.

Well , if that is true , I have no idea what the hell is up with this then .

Left side run producer is what we need .

If Miles was brought in to start(I sure hope he wasn't), the Cubs middle infield will be very anti-SLG. Throw in DLee's continued decline in the SLG department, and the Cubs infield doesn't look all that scary.

Fontenot will get most of the starts (against RHP). Lou's talked about getting him more PA's all offseason, and he projects to the same numbers as DeRo for a full-season; he just doesn't have Mark's versatility as Fontenot is really only fit to play 2b.

Besides the people that think 'playoff experience' and 'choking' are relevant should be happy as DeRosa was one of the biggest chokers the last two offseasons and Miles is a proven winner.

Just kidding

the middle infielders are never really know for slugging. thats the corners. corner OF and corner IF. It will be a nice 1-2 in the order with Miles-Theriot, setting up for Ram-Bradley-Soriano at 3-4-5

My predicted lineup

Miles
Theriot
Ram
Bradley
Soriano
Lee
Soto
Johnson/Fukudome

Actually, todays middle infielders do SLG. It's rare for any team to have a starting SS AND 2B that can't SLG.

JH has already said

A) he is not going after Roberts

B) Soriano is staying at lead-off.

I can't believe people want to give the most PA on the team to Miles and Theriot by batting them 1/2. That's pure insanity. That's like the Bears designing offensive plays around Rasheed Davis and Marty Booker.

Hendry on comcastsportsnet today said that getting Miles actually gives Lou the option to tinker with the leadoff spot.

That's not what I read the other day

Regardless if you extrapolate the numbers between Sori/Font and Theriot/miles at 1/2 you get:

-Higher OBP for Miles/Theriot (probably 30 points) - about the only positive
-approx. same number of BB
-More XBH for Sori/Font by a very wide margin, probably 30-40 XBH (players already in scoring position without having to sacrifice an out)
-approx. 4-5 times more CS and 2-3 times more GIDP with Miles/Theriot (essentially almost a complete game of outs and negating some of the advatage of OBP).

If the Cubs do not land a slugger in RF, you can probably make the argument for having one of these two guys as the regular lead-off or in the #2 slot, or is Aram goes down for a bit and you have to move Sori down. However some of the lineups I've seen with Theriot/Miles leading off have Soto pushed to #7 to make room for this. That's just doesn't make sense and is more Dusty Baker-ball type philosophy.

Probably in the end lineup order doesn't matter, and the success middle of the order (can Lee bounce back/will aram stay healthy/new RF/Can Soto replicate) will determine the cubs offensive success anyway, I guess what I'm trying to see is I'd rather give more PA to Soriano,Soto,Fontenot than Miles or Theriot.
