The Shining Jewel

There is one shining jewel in this Cubs organization , Marlon Byrd !!

After his performance in the All Star game he will be getting much more national attention to the Cubs. The flow and dare I say momentum of that game change when he was inserted ! I hope the other players start playing up to the standard of baseball he sets fourth every day. If they don't his clean full out style of play will just shine a huge light of contrast on all the slop we have seen from this team.

He is quite an exceptional player that I had no idea of the fundamental soundness of him at his signing. I really hope that he is the new standard of what our team leadership will expect from all new players.

If we build a team in the image of the type of player Marlon Byrd is we will see a much sooner turn around than most of us expect.

He has definately become my favorite player... but that concerns me as just as soon as I label one of the guys as my "favorite", Hendry goes and ships them off or lets them go. (Walker, DeRosa, Reed Johnson, etc.)

Byrd has played well this season, and is a deserving all-star...

But let's not get carried away! He isn't playing some "special" style of baseball. Christ!

Soto and Soriano have both played well for the Cubs this season. It's not just Byrd.

There is always that " creepiness " to all of your post .

NOBODY said he was " special " . The only comments was about his soundness of fundamental baseball skills. You have to invent reasons to disagree with a post.

As for Soriano and Soto , I must of been out smoking when they came into the All Star game.

Don't backtrack now! You said it.

All I did was point out that you are incorrect. Soto and Soriano have had very good season's for the Cubs as well. But you continue to neglect giving them credit, because you don't like them.

I love calling you on your BS!

Banks,

This is a website that prides itself on being respectful to each other. Many of your posts are confrontational to other members on this site. It's OK to disagree with another post, but it shouldn't always turn into a pissing contest. If that's what you like, visit the Cubs message board.

P.S. Your signature pretty much says it all. Are you Bims?

If I was a moderator you would be gone.

You really are insane. Nobody has been as consistant as Byrd. Consistant performance is a reflection of fundamentals being at the core of your play. If you beleive that your pets are as sound of players at thier positions and still swing the bat you are crazy.

You are quite the wierd creepy stalker type

(edit) There is another player who has been consitant , our " fourth outfileder " . He has been starting most every game and is leading all rookies in homeruns .

You just can't grasp simple concepts!

Byrd is playing very well for the Cubs...but he's not the only one playing well, as your post made it sound like. Soriano and Soto have played well all season...why can't you admit that? It's not just Byrd! Byrd isn't some lone, shinning jewel.

Soto may be the best catcher in the national league, and his defense has been good...

Soriano has hit among the best LF's in the national league, and his decent has been solid...

Dempster has been a consistent and solid starting pitcher...

Marmol has been a very good reliever...

Marshall may be the best left handed reliever not named Arthur Rhodes...

You are the troubled one. Do you realize that both Soto and Soriano was benched early in the season ? Byrd was never benched ! Soriano started working harder at improving his position AFTER Lou took him in the office for a chat . I wonder if that was all it took , why the hell did Lou not do that 2 years ago ! I do hand it to Soriano for busting his ass to make himself better.
Sorinao is being paid $19,000,000 for the level of play we have seen Byrd is at $ 3 million.
As for Soto , the play in yesterday's game says it all.

I noticed the one you left off your list of " consistant " players was that " fourth outfilder " , you never thought much of.

spooky stalker dude

What does how much a player makes...or what motivated him to make them play well, have to do with them being productive? A player playing well, is a player playing well!

You are the one who called Marlon Byrd "the lone shining jewel"(creepy!) of the Cubs organization... You made that idiotic statement!

Your failure to admit how well both Soriano, and especially Soto, are playing this season, screams of extreme ignorance and bias.

Soto is a top 3 player at his position this season...most likely higher!
Don't make this about one dropped ball, idiot! What can't you understand about Soto's amazing .282/.405/.484 line? That's the line of a catcher! On top of his great production at the plate, Soto has handled a pitching staff that has produced very well, and continues throwing base runners out!

As for Colvin...he has earned the right to win an everyday job...but he is still just a fourth outfielder...

Colvin's BA is down to .262 for the season. His OBP is down to .313. The more he plays everyday, the more he gets exposed. Since playing more, Colvn's stats:

Colvin started only a combined 13 games in March/April/May
Colvin started 16 games in June...a vast increase in playing time...so how did he do?
June: .250/.280/.500
He must have done better in July, right? Nope! Colvin has started 11 games do far in July
July: .213/.275/.404 Ouch!
Looks to me like a player getting exposed, and the very definition of a "4th outfielder"!

See Lee, I used logic and evidence to back up my opinions....while you use...well...retardation!
