Spring Training...Day 1 this and that

...Lou says he is "saddened" by the A-Rod revelation that he did use "performance enhancing drugs back in 2001-2003. Lou and A-Rod have always maintained a close relationship after Lou was his skipper with the mariners.

....Z has not had his Lasik eye surgery yet because of an infection that has set into his eye. He is being treated with eye drops and says he still may have the surgery done before the season, or perhaps into the season.... he described part of his eye problem as his eye supposed to be shaped like a baseball but instead it is shaped like a football.

.....Harden will be limited in Spring Training because of his shoulder problems.
Quote:
"We will not overtax him early here," general manager Jim Hendry said Friday as pitchers and catchers were checking in for spring training. "He feels really good, and if anything, we're going to have to be cautious with him that he doesn't feel too good and want to go too fast, too hard."
Harden chose to rehab his shoulder in Mesa after the 2008 season instead of having surgery that would have forced him to miss all of 2009. The Cubs picked up his $7 million option, and he's eligible for free agency in 2010.

...Manager Lou Piniella said his biggest regret last October was not using Ted Lilly in the playoffs. "So how about if we make Lilly the Opening Day starter to make it up to him?" he said with a laugh. Zambrano, who has yet to win on Opening Day, said, "I don't like being the Opening Day starter, but if I have to be the Opening Day starter, I have to do my job."

Do people think that Z should be starting opening day? it seems like a mental block with him and the prospect of actually winning on opening day. If it's in his head like it seems to be then why not put someone else out there like a Lilly or Dempster. I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to get the rotation sorted.

As of now, without seeing how Spring Training goes, my vote goes to Lilly.... he got robbed of the chance of pitching in the playoffs.
