Harden goes on Cubs DL with back strain
By Paul Sullivan

SAN DIEGO- The Cubs placed Rich Harden on the 15-day disabled list with a back strain on Friday, and inserted Randy Wells into the rotation for Saturday's game.

Harden felt a twinge in his last outing last Sunday, and in a subsequent side session this week in St. Louis. With Harden's injury, the Cubs don't have to make any move with the bullpen to reactive Carlos Zambrano, who starts tonight against Jake Peavy.

Harden will be eligible to return during the Atlanta series, which begins June 2 at Turner Field. It's his seventh stint on the disabled list since 2005.

Can anyone say that they are surprised, it really was a matter of when rather if Harden go's on the DL.

The silver lining here is that we get to see Randy Wells stay in the rotation, and see if he's in the Cubs long-term plans.

I really think this is just something minor, but because Z was coming off the DL it would be easier to put him in the DL (rest harden, as well) and would help them to not have to decide on who to send down right now. Scales is the only one on the team right now getting any sort of decent plate appearances, Wells is deserving of another start.... He'll be fine.

Actually, Scales is one of the few players who wont need to worry. With Z coming back, Wells or Marshall would go to the bullpen. That, in turn, would mean that Cotts or Patton would be sent to the minors (or back to the Rockies in Patton's case)

I honestly woulnd't be heartbroken to see Patton go back to the Rockies. I think I've said it before, but if this team were in a "rebuilding" mode, Patton would be great. But for a team built to win now, he's not a good piece to the puzzle. His situation kind of ties Lou and Jim's hands as far as bullpen management.

what really ties their hands is being unable to make a trade due to lack of funds, this ownership **** is pissing me off. Mr. Ricketts may not be the best owner for us afterall if he is seeking "donations" to help raise money to buy the team, and he is trying to lower the asking price still
