Santana had a Clemens/Wood-like day
I just flipped the TV onto ESPNEWS, and the corner of the screen next to the scores says that Johan Santana of the Twins has 17 strikeouts through 8 innings pitched. He wasn't allowed to pitch the ninth, as Joe Nathan came in to close out the game, and he got two strikeouts himself. If he had come out for the ninth, he would've needed to strikeout the side to tie Roger Clemens and Kerry Wood for 20 strikeouts in a nine-inning game. Randy Johnson also had 20 Ks, but that was in 10 innings.
