Pie distancing self from Fuld

During the in game interview when Len and Bob talked to Lou, Lou was talking about the lineup and how Pie was distancing himself from Fuld. I really want Pie to win the job, I think he could be special. Hopefully he keeps up the good work.

I have to agree with the fact Pie is out front by quite a bit. I mean really, when is the time to bring him up? Hes got over 1,200 AB's in the minors. Anyways, he looked good today with a walk and a hit, but what I like is he didn't strike out today!

None of the CF candidates has really distinguished himself at this point. I don't know how they all did today but as of yesterday Pie was at .238; Fuld was really slow coming out the gate at .182 and Cedeno middlin' at .200. Patterson (if he's in the CF race) was at .214. I keep hearing really good things about Cedeno and his glove in center but he really seems to be a AAAA hitter. Bummer.

In the middle infield Fontenot (.333) and Theriot (.348), the Crazy Cajuns, are tearin' it up as they periodically do. I don't consider either of these guys regulars but both have demonstrated the ability to get really hot and exciting for decent periods of time and can really provide a spark and lift if used properly.

" ..... I have to agree with the fact Pie is out front by quite a bit. I mean really, when is the time to bring [any minor leaguer] him up? Hes got over 1,200 AB's in the minors. ....."

Interesting subject. 1200 ABs sounds like a lot but it's just 2 or 3 full seasons. Is that enough ? What is "rushed" ? The criteria should be individual - when the specific player is of Major League caliber.

I recall, and wish I could find and thusly post, an article by Bill James from roughly 20 years ago addressing the Cubs media claim and assertion that Schawn Dunston had been "rushed" and therefore abused and destroyed (such as BP claims the Cubs rushed and destroyed Corey Patterson). James demonstrated that exactly the opposite was true: Dunston had had an extended period to develop in the minors.

1200 ABs ? I did not check if that stat is correct and have no reason to doubt you but that's hardly "rushed" if you were implying that. He advanced quickly. And may very well not be ready yet - understandably.

As one ESPN writer said, "It's put up or shut up time for Felix Pie." He has nothing left to prove in the minors (didn't he hit like .370 in AAA?). It's his time.

You know its really funny how people not with the team everyday can form these sort of opinions. I'll go with what Lou says
"I really want Pie to win the job, I think he could be special. Hopefully he keeps up the good work".

That ain't good enough for some of you when it comes right out of Lous mouth?????

Also Soriano and Pie are best friends and Sori has taken the kid under his wings to show him the ropes. That is another reason why he will be the starting CF for the Cub's. Etch it in Stone people.

I think that Soriano could help Pie so much in developing his hitting and baserunning abilities. I want Pie to start just as bad as anyone else who likes him. I've heard for 2-3 years now how he's going to be a very good major leauger.....well maybe they should play him this year so we can find out.
