I know there's all the 9-win scuttlebut, but Z should have had 15 wins last year. Look at his game log; he had four or five 1-run games that were either ND or losses. You can't fault him for pitching his heart out and losing. The best a pitcher can do is put his team in a position to win. A pitchers win is as much a team stat as anything, and 300 wins these days is as much a testament to the awesome teams you've been on as it is the longevity.

Lilly should have had 4-5 more too, Wells as well.

If opening day is indicative of how this team will play all season, i will loose interest in about 1 month from now.

This Cubs team = FAIL

Paul Sullivan told me because Milton Bradley isn't here we're going to win 90 games.

Sorry, I love over-reaction Opening Day.

What I don't love is the Cubs owing Jeff Samardzija more than $8 million. Do people realize he got more money than Prior, Texiera, etc.???

Its not necessarily overreaction IMO- its just this team in general. They dont make plays other teams make. Sure Font and Theriot had nice defensive plays today, but the broken bat pop flies that fell between them and Byrd were ridiculous, not to mention Z's errant throw to third. Escobar's first hit to drive in 2 hopped 4 times up the middle- either they were playing him as a dead pull hitter or Theriot has terrible range.

A positive- our lefties out of the pen / also we didnt hit that bad- I think itr was only 5 or 6 hits but Soto stung it a few times with nothing to show for it as did Lee. Fuku, Aram, Byrd all looked good swinging.

Who was surprised here ? It showed all of the warts most of us has been saying forever , I have at least . Big Z is not an ace and hard to see him making his contract as one , Samarja sucks and should not be in the big league , Soriano can't hit , Theriot should not be leading off and is limited in his range , Soto is not what we have been sold . I really think Hill is a better catcher. The team plays better in front of him and for all of those who think it is stupid voodoo there are reasons. Hill calls a faster game and more down pitches that puts the ball in play for ground outs. Lou will not address any of these issues , he will do what he always does and says " keep putting them out there and hope they hit " . " What you want me to do ? "

Thumbs down But, hey!, it's still early !!!

There's no getting around the fact the 2010 Cubs did not make a very good first impression.

Nowhere to go but up after that fiasco.

You could see the wind come out of they're sails after the gorilla gave up those runs in the bottom of the first. He does not look any different from his past years. Hendry needs to move him and get all he can for him now. He needs a change of scenery and we need, well alot.

I won't make a judgment on the rest of the team after one game but I tend to lean in favor of your assessment LER. We've had our differences in the past but it's funny how things change.

Wow gorilla thats a new one

Its funny to see all the hate and anger after one game. Considering how many people call Zambrano a headcase, you have to wonder who the real unbalanced ones are.

Typical, dumb Cub fan overreaction, after only 1 game.....

Last I checked, Z pitched well last season, and very well in "his past years"....

Maybe you are one of those genius baseball fans who relates a starting pitcher's success to his win/loss record....
