That one stings

I guess what goes around comes around. We have stolen a few games here of late so its hard to complain about that one. Its just that Gregg basically served the .225 hitter up with a hanger that I could have hit 400 feet. It wasnt near as bad as Zamaya though throwing Hop a changeup, so I guess those kind of evened out. The thing I noticed most though about the game is Leyland still went with his best at the end after blowing the lead. He didnt use Rodney but still used his LH and Brandon Lyons, where Lou usually goes with the back of our pen if we are losing such as last night with Hart. I know our pen is overworked but he has done this plenty. Enough of the Lou bashing from me. Its time to bash the real culprit. Is there a bigger cry baby in the league than Zambrano? If Anderson doesnt break for second and get picked off, that inning would have turned into a disaster. Man up - you got crushed on that pitch, so what. Its not all about him, like he makes it look. I know some will say he is a competitor and thats his style. Ive seen it way too many times to believe that. He is all about himself. They are probably having to separate him from Gregg right now as I type for blowing the win. He basically cussed Soto, scrreamed at Rothschild, and even said something to DLee. The guy is a good P but could be so much better.

As soon as Gregg walked the tying run, I figured it was over... it's so hard to get excited about this team this year... just when we think it is turning around and looking up, you get games like the last two... and the last few weeks before our four game winning streak.... it's crushing. It's that same feeling I had during the Dodger series last October.

Yes Ryno it is tough watching at times. I have "High Expectations" I love the Cubs and watch all the time, (my wife will ask me why I have to watch parts of the games over on TIVO) Sometime it is because I feel so good about it when they succeed. I guess when they don't I am looking for the reasons they did fail. One thing for certain is "You don't walk the lead-off hitter when you only have a one run lead. Oh well... Let's get em tonight.

not that there is much of a defense with that walk, but he and the batter had a decent battle, and its hard to throw numerous straight strikes. The batter fouled off a fe pitches with two strikes. He tried to get him to chase on a pitch and unfortunitly he failed.

You are correct- It was a good battle. Actually a real hitter would have swung at the last pitch. It was too close to take IMO. With that being said though and the number of pitches he fouled off it shows that Gregg does not have that dominating pitch it takes to be a bonafide closer. Im not saying he cant close because he has done a pretty good job, but as long as he is our closer I expect these things will happen on occasion and fans will continue to get that uneasy feeling when he is in the game especially with a 1 run lead. Marmol, on the other hand, has the stuff to fan anyone- however he cant control it therefore Gregg is our best option right now. I expect Guzman to be in this role though either next year or maybe even before this year is over.

I said to my wife when he came to the mound , that if he walks a batter , we lose.
