Juan Mateo

I haven't heard/seen his name brought up for a potential 5th starter spot

I think he is playing winter ball somewhere. I might consider him a darkhorse for the 5th spot, seeing as he is on the 40-man roster.

Maybe I am just bored to death with the Roberts talk.

You too, huh. I think the off season is going to drive some people into a nut house.

I don't know much about Mateo. I don't think Hendry is done tinkering. I am a little nervous that our farm system will have nothing but Samardzija and a Hot Dog vendor by the time pitchers and catchers report. But that is just cause my boredome causes me to get sucked into every rumor I read.

Sean Marshall
Sean Gallagher
Kevin Hart
Juan Mateo
Neal Cotts
Adam Harben
Veal
Walrond/O'Malley
Samardzija
Mark Holliman

That's what I could think of for a depth chart right now for #5 in the system, barring a trade for a SP and Marshall/Gallagher leaving the club. Marshall made the jump from AA to MLB, you never know I guess.

He was in Peoria for awhile this last summer.... he pitched on Father's Day.... I do believe rehabbing from some shoulder issues.

hmmmm, yea... I havent heard of him either. As far as trading the farm for stars, I dont really have much of an issue with that. Thats what its there for. Well, half the reason.

Mateo was one of the "revolving pitchers" in 2006 that the Cubs utilized during the summer where every day another pitchers arm seemed to fall off and they were pulling the minor league pitchers out of thier beds at night and telling them they were picthing for the Cubs the next day!

His 2007 at AAA wasn't that impressive, but as Ryno said, he missed the first half with arm problems and winterball and ST will show a bigger picture

He only had half a season of AA under his belt when he was promoted to the big league club.
