Thumbs down That Sucked!

Plain and simple. Theriot is not a run-production hitter. Plain and simple. he has come up at least 4 times in the last week in situations of great opportunity, the game on the line actually, and gotten himself out with excessively aggressive hitting. He gets himself out over and over within the first 3 pitches. Today it was the very first pitch (in the 8th - 2 men on - down by 1). Pop-up. In his defense his style works for him at the very top or bottom of the order and he's not a clean-up hitter type. Unfortunately he has been consistently forced to assume that role because the bottom of our order is hitting so well. What irony.

Somebody needs to wake up Lee and Ramirez. Hey here's a thought! Let's trade them while we can. You know what? I'm half serious.

Once again the Cubs find themselves losing games they should be winning. What a solid performance by Dempster.

Why the hell didn't Lou use Soto or Soriano as pinch-hitters??

Chad Tracy?? really??

Nady + Grabow look like huge wastes of money at this point.

Although I'd rather have a team fail, than a single relief pitcher blow it.

I actually dislike Theriot less than what I used to, but the fact is, he is stupid baseball player and doesn't make alot of good decisions, that at bat being a good example.

If I never see Nady again it will be too soon.

And yes Theriot is not a run producer he is a textbook two hole hitter.

Lee probably is going to go and we may see Soriano at first next year ( start screaming now )

With the $25 million the Phillies are paying their first baseman , may just put Jason Worth in play this year . That is just what we need on our corner.

Theriot was the perfect guy at bat, in that spot...

The Cubs didn't need a "run-producer"... whatever that means... They needed a line-drive, slap hitter. Theriot had two hits coming into that at bat... Theriot has come up with big hits in the past, and will continue to do so. The Cubs didn't need a home-run, 2B, or any slugging ability at all. All they needed was a single!

And please, baseball is as much about luck, and stationary hitting, as any sport. There is rarely, and I mean rarely, any such player as a "clutch" one. Theriot was doing the right thing by trying to go the other way... He happened to pop it up... it happens. But he did not fail to produce a run because he was stupid, nervous, or in a tough spot.

Lee and Ramirez will be fine... At the end of the season, their numbers will be there... Which is a great reason for Cubs fans to be so optimistic the rest of the way!

I did when it happened, and still do like the Nady signing. Nady just isn't used to being a part time player, yet... That's not an easy transition. Finding Nady consistent at bats will be a struggle. Especially with Colvin playing so well. Lou has to find a way to get him more at bats, though... Nady is a good hitter... he will be fine.

Theriot was just one problem AB today. There were many of them though. Chances blown all over the place today. The tough part for me is that this part of the schedule has seemed fairly easy and this team is 10-12. We can rave all we want to about Demps and he did pitch well, but he made a terrible pitch to Dunn on 3-1. As far as Lou- I was upset he didnt have the runners in motion with Aram batting which in turn caused a DP. In that situation I think you have to trust your hitter especially one like him . I dont care if he has hit 150 for theyr and fanned 20 plus times. As far as bunting Byrd up- I have to agree with Lou on that one. I think our pen has thrown like 5 games this yr w/o allowing anything, so I can understand his thoughts there.

Here is the press conference that Lou had after the game... "What kind of baseball do you play?" He asks.... I'd like to ask him the same thing sometimes!

I certainly hope he is as much of an ass to the players as he is the media when he's p.o.'ed after a loss.

people are more pissed about Theriot's plate approach.

The pitcher threw four straight balls the previous atbat and Crappy McScrappy Theriot swings at the first pitch.... ****ing brilliant plate approach, definitely the perfect guy to have at the plate.

Theriot is not a smart baseball player, and he proves it time and again.

IMO he can't complain about the players when he pinch hits Tracy and Nady over Soriano and Soto in a tight sitation like that when Nady and Tracy have had nothing lately.

Tracy pinch-hitting for Hill and THEN Soto coming in the game?? That's so astoundingly stupid it doesn't even register.

Now I do agree here.
