to not resign him would be a huge mistake who's in the bulpen that can close? samardja orhowever you spell it i dont think is ready for that pressure, and marmol didnt look good at the end of the year, hs taken little contracts for the past two season i say resign him as a closer, and he will keep chugging along

Two years with an option sounds good. $7 mil a year with incentives up to $8.5 mil a year. If he stays as the closer and he saves 35+ games give him the incentive money.

I'm thinking three years, $24 million with bonuses and a fourth-year mutual option might be doable.

give em a chance

give Wood a chance. he was pretty solid as the closer in his FIRST YEAR as the closer. I think Wood will be even better next season. 3 years is a great deal. plus, remember that if Wood does get injured, there is another man by the name of Carlos Marmol who can step in to be the shutdown closer.

Morgan i was just wondering if you were watching the same Carlos Marmol as i was???? hes not going to be a closer right now at this point in his career, Samardja is much better choice then Marmol at this point but hey give them all a chance but Wood must be resigned

I guess we'll see just how close Hendry and Woody really are......damn i was just looking at his stats and he only had 18 walks in 66 innings, we've watched him grow up.

Wood gave us a huge discount when he signed a one year deal last season. He signed for 4.2M. He is going be be a top 3 closer on the market, and if he hits the market (meaning we dont sign him before he hits the phase where other teams can bid on him) he will get at least 10M per.

I think its going to cost the Cubs 8-11M per year. Maybe escalated. 8 first (incentives to get it to 10)9 the second (incentives to get it to 11) 10 in the third (incentives to get it to 12) w/ a option for a 4th year if he hits certain marks ie. 35-40 saves.

I understand the history and all but at this point they have bigger needs. I say sign Peavy and get some lefty hitting b4 Wood.

problem with getting Peavy is having the prospects that the Padres will want, and having better prospects then the other teams incvolved which are: Astros, Cardinals, Braves and Dodgers. There are 5 teams he said he will go to
